Has anyone ever removed the 3 M tape on a painted surface? If so what did you remove the glue with?
I have a small amount of glue that is about 5" X 26". Not heavy but I would like to remove it. Tried gel gloss, rubbing compound, WD 40, rubbing alcohol. Haven't tried to heat it with blow dryer and haven't tried mineral spirits yet?
Any suggests would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Last time I had to remove any double stick tape I started to peel it while using a blow dryer on the lowest heat setting, at the lowest possible fan speed for that setting (some dryers you have to use medium fan speed with low heat as low fan is for no heat at all).
The tape usually breaks in the act of coming off...then I just use my thumb (either one) to rub/scrape (I have rough hands) the remaining tape and glue off.
If it's on a flat surface that faces upward, get a slightly soapy sponge and peel as much of the tape off as will come off, then put the sponge on the remaining residue for 15-20 minutes, the soapy water will weaken the tape and the glue underneath. I recently did this with Windex and a paper towel on my car window to remove a parking permit and still needed a razorblade (high-temp windshield adhesive on the permit), it's going to take some time and patience.
Pardon the pun, but you'll just have to "stick with it..."

Want to straight stuff? As a boat owner for many years, one of the easiest is plain old gasoline. And its flash point is not any lower than the stuff mentioned above. And it works well!
Just be careful with any of the stuff.
HERE is a related thread. Be VERY careful with Goo Gone, Goof Off, and anything like that. If it's just adhesive and not the tape itself, I would go with gas, Energine, or something of known substance. Any of the "Goo" products are looking for trouble with the finish.
I actually test the tapes that come through our Lab. I could tell you what to use if I knew what tape you had stuck on the MH. First, I would try the original tape itself. The backing has a primer applied to it and then the adhesive (glue) is applied to the primer. (don't worry, this is no secret)The primer should keep the adhesive intacked with the backing. So using the original tape, if it was its intended porpoise, should lift the adhesive off. If the tape was the Blue Scotch Painters Tape, try Windex. Other industrial adhesives would be removed w/ heptane. Be careful with nail polish remover (acetone) it can do a number on plastics.
When your done, give it a buffing with wax. Oh Yea, try an inconspicuous spot first.

Tea tree oil, buy it in any pharmacy area and put a little on a rag and it will take it right off no matter how long its been on there and does not hurt a thing.
