"Camping" is a term that means different things to different people. Some think of "Solitued" while others don't care as long as they are in their camper.

#1 Pismo Coast Village is right over the dunes from the beach. We stay there quite often. You can walk to town or take a short drive to many local attractions.
#2 Morro Dunes is right across the street from the beach. A little more cramped, but a nice place to stay.
#3 Marina dunes is just north of Monterey and is close to the beach but a long walk to the water.
#4 Newport dunes in LA area is a nice place and is right on the bay of Newport Beach. Very pricy but a 10/10/10 rated park.

you going to have a hard time getting any campsite for that weekend, let alone on the beach.
in calif., you have to make reservations 6 months in advance, for any beach campsite on a holiday weekend.
you might get something inland, maybe 30 mins. from the beach.
who knows, if you're lucky, maybe fuel prices will open up some sites from cancellations.

Dockweiler? Only if you want to catch a 747 while your camping. At night, you feel like your right on the runway.

I will second (or is that third?) to say that if you don't already have reservations for Memorial Day then you won't really find anything as holidays in California and especially the coast book up months and months in advance...

Jalama County Beach is great, if you survive the ride in and out. LOL 12 miles of tough driving but worth it if you plan to stay a while. Thats 12 miles each way.

We stayed at Pismo, Oceano campground. They just have partial hookups, water and electricity. Campground is two blocks from the beach.

Jalama Beach is first come first served. If all the sites are taken they will put you on a waiting list and of course you will have to wait,If someone cancels or doesn't show up they will give it to the first person on the list. Good luck with this one.

Most of the campgrounds in Ca. don't have hookups. I will mention a few down the coast. Starting with Big Sur beautiful park, You get to Santa Cruz and there is New Brighton SB, Sunset SB.We have been to both of them. Like them both. Now we are close to Santa Barbara and we always go to El Capitan State Beach or Refugio. We like El Capitan a lot.Like a said before none of this parks have hookups.

Did you guys read his post? He wants to go Memorial Day weekend. I would bet dollars to donuts that every campsite is full in Southern Cal and up the coast to Santa Barabara, maybe even up to Morro bay. The reservation system for campsites on the coast is worse than the start of a NASCAR race every 1st of the month.Good Luck!
