Between Friday and Monday (yesterday) we went from Arcadia Fl to Pt St Lucie and got to clean off the sticky love bugs twice. On the windshield repeated spraying with water and letting soak and respraying until the bugs start to come off with the spray and then washing with Zip Car Wash is the best way. A good wax job on the front also helps.
The bugs were the worst between Lake Placid and Okeechobee.

I use to spray the front of my car with Pam before I leave and this seem to help get them off later

I use WD-40 on the painted front, and "Sprayway" glass cleaner (4 pack at Sams) on the windshield. As stated, I spray the glass, and rub it in w/ a squeege/scotchbrite type scrubber w/ extended handle (Wal-Mart), let it set a few minutes, and then use the squeege side to clean off the windshield. I spray more WD-40 on the paint and rub off w/ a cotton towel. WD-40 works on the mirrors as well.

I had my first experience with the "LOVE BUGS" a couple of weeks ago. Since I spend a lot of my time in the desert in California where there are NO bugs, I just haven't noticed LOVE BUGS before. We don't seem to have them in Tennessee (Mosquito capitol of the world).
Well, driving from Oklahoma to New Orleans recently, the front of the coach was absolutely covered with these LOVE BUGS!! While stopped a Target to pick up a few supplies, I turned on the squirters to see if it would help. All it did was knock off the "pair of bugs" but left all the guts to get smeared. Why are the bugs always in two's?? Are they Siamese?
Anyway, once we arrived to the French Quarter RV park in New Orleans, I got the ladder out and sprayed the windshield with lots and lots of Windex (I hate Windex) and let it soak.... still very hard to get the bugs off.
I have had such good luck with Sprayway that I'm trying to use up all of my existing Windex. Windex only smears the glass, especially in California... works a little better in Tennessee (I do not know why).

Another vote for the dryer sheet, you won't believe it until you try it. It works so well you will be telling others, the sheet melts the bugs like butter.

Sorry I didn't answer the question posed sooner. I had Diamon-fusion applied to the windshield. Cost about $700 for windshield, side windows and shower. So far nothing sticks. No spots on windows or show. Does it protect against rocks??? I hope I never find out.

I use a push boom with soap which cover the windshield nicely and brisk enough to knock off the dry ones also the handle is long where you don't need a ladder

Nu-finish liquid wax works as well as anything and is much cheaper than Rain-X.
Also helps the wiper work better in a rain storm.
