My first experience buying a part for my rv was at RV Marine Supply on State Ave. in Marysville, Wa. I called and asked if they had a water filter for my rig, as mine was cracked. Sure, bring it down and we'll match it up. I show up and the owner gives me a water filter that looks totally different. I tell her it doesn't look like it will fit, and she tells me it will. She says it's the exact replacement for my discontinued filter, and looks at me like I'm stupid or something.

So I get home, and it isn't even close to fitting. I immediately call and ask how long I have to return it. 3 days! I ask her if I can bring it in next week when my wife will be making the 30 mile trek again anyway. NO!

I tell her I'm not going to make a special trip 30 miles to return a $10 part. Again she says 3 days, or she won't accept it. Finally after insisting several times, she agreed. Upon returning it, she tells my wife how rude I was to her for not honoring her return policy.

Are other rv parts places like this too, or did I just run into an extreme case?

By law, their return policy must be posted. As good customer service, especially since you told her ahead of time that it may not fit, she should have honored that. Looks like you wont be going there anymore.

I have learned the hard way to find out the return policy before I buy anything anywhere! I would never go back to that place! Glad you got it returned but that policy sucks!

Hi All.

Most water filters can be found at Home Depot or Lowes, or even at a lot of ACE Hardware stores, as they are carrying a lot of RV items now. Also a lot of K-Marts and Wal-Marts. Stop wasting your money on those special expensive filter in the first place. Happy Camping, Dan & Jill

Thanks for the replies! I thought a 3 day return policy was pretty stringent. Don't remember if they have it posted in the store. No, I won't ever be stepping foot in that place again. I'll check Home Depot, Lowes and the like first next time, just in case they have what I need. We have a Camping World just a few miles further, so I can go there if need be.

Like Dan said... check out your local Walmart and K-mart..

Both of these places have a fairly extensive "RV" section and have started carrying RV related items that you would only find in an RV sales store just a few years ago..

Most items are the same brand as in Camping World and other RV specialty stores.. but at a lower price..

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.
