We looked at a ton of trailers before settling on our new (to us) fiver.
We liked the floorplan we bought because even with the slide in it's still very accessable, although if we plan on needing access to the bunk room we do need to open the door before pulling in the slide as it would otherwise be blocked by a few inches.
Most of our entertainment unit (including the TV) is blocked when the slide is in, but that's about the worst part really...not a big deal.
We did look at some floorplans that were absolutely terrible with the slides in - anything from no bathroom access to a complete inability to even get past the doorway. Since we quite enjoy the ability to make quick pitstops while on the road anything with a crappy floorplan like that was immediately out of contention.

The floor plan makes all the difference as far as closed up "livability" is concerned. My rig has 4 slides and I can access the refrigerator, the bathroom and the bed without extending anything which is all we need when overnighting on the road.

Different but related but I've always thought about how those hard expandables would be with the beds in. The ones where typically the rear bed slides out the back and the couch is in front of it. Just looks like it would be tight, but usable with them in, no seating.

When we were shopping for our unit, we had decieded on going with a Class C MH. We looked at several and settled on a Monaco.
With the slides in travel mode, there is enough room to get to the bathroom and the fridge and the entertainment center is part of the overhead.
Its a rear bedroom slideout so there isnt much room to get around the bed with the slide in.
We ll know how well this works after our first trip next week.

Unfortunately when I bought my R-Vision Trail Bay V series with the front bathroom I knew absolutely nothing about RVs and had never seen this forum. It looked good on the dealer's lot (slide out) but after I got it home I found that with the slide in you can't open either the bathroom or bedroom door and you cant get from the entrance to the kitchen. I discovered this forum shortly after buying the trailer and I can't believe how stupid I was.

Access to everything except one stowed recliner (other chair is usable)and dresser drawers at foot of bed. We have two full depth slideouts. Floorplan makes all the difference.

Access to nearly everything except for the mid coach LCD TV and some drawers in the bedroom. Can still sleep 5 comfortably with the slides in if needed. The passageway is just a little narrower than our old non-slide Winnebago. More than made up for by the extra area when the four slides are out! Check the RV with the slides in before buying!

Update on my 5/2/08 post. Just got back 10 day trip 2 quick overnites. o.k. with slide in EXCEPT when have to have dog in crate (minor injury meds). Not too bad when camped - crate fits between captains chairs. but when moving goes in 'hall' - blocks bath room, bedroom, shower. No quick pit stops.

My trailer isn't particularly roomy with the slide in, but I can get to all the kitchen and bedroom stuff. The floor of the slide pops up in the last two inches of travel and blocks the corner of the bathroom door, but that's easy to deal with. Hitting the slide out button for a second or two (with the locking bars still in) rotates the floor enough to allow the bath door to be opened.

Along this same line: I can access all parts of my TT with the slide in, yet I try not to put to mich weight on the part of the slide that I have to step on as I go by. It is a little raised and I dont want to mess up anything. How correct is my thinking?
