Careful here. The Coolant "filter" comes in different amounts of SCA (Supplemental Coolant Additive). You need to test the coolant to determine the correct amount (units) of SCA that need to be added. You may need none, 4 units, 8 units, etc. Correct concentration means testing and adding what is needed, not just changing the filter.

These test strips are available from Wix, NAPA, Cummins, etc.

I'm getting that wrench....and an extra filter after what I've seen about bad fuel posted in the past.

I have a primary and a secondary and carry two changes. A full load of bad fuel will take three filters to clean out. Well I have 200 gallons so it may differ for you. BUt I had to change mine every 100 miles last time.

Our rig has about 8,500 miles on it and the manual recommends a 11,000 oil/filter change (CAT C7). Since we are heading for a 9000 mile trip to Alaska, I went ahead and did a complete oil/filter change for the engine and generator. I also installed two new fuel filters and will carry an extra set with me on the trip.

Unless you get a bad batch of fuel they will last 30K+ miles. One batch of bad fuel will clog them if you put them on the day before. Fortunately bad fuel is not a problem but it does happen. On his ISL you just put the new filters on and turn the key on/off several times to prime. Might want to buy a filter wrench that fits if you do not have big hands. I test my water and add conditioner as needed.

I guess I am a little gun shy when it comes to fuel filters, since I have had 2 major problems with the CAPP system on my ISL.

As a matter of course I change the fuel filters whenever I change the oil which is usually once a year. Penny wise pound foolish not to change them.

I just had my 400 isl/ Freightliner chassis serviced using Cummins/Freightliner service recommendations as a guideline. I do it once a year, as I never exceed 15000 miles in a year. This way I am not compromising my six year warrenty on engine/trany & chassis.

Here is a little tidbit I picked up from the latest issue of Country Coach's magazine.( summerized of course)

"15,000 oil changes were designed for heavy duty engines that run all the time under load...they are NOT ( repeat NOT) for the typical MOTORHOME user and oil changes of 6 months or 6,000 miles ( remember..avg owner runs about 6000 miles a year!!) are more inline with "proper maintainence" and having a chassis lube at the same time."

It goes on to state "when did you ever heard of a diesel motorhome owner complaining that he had a problem caused by OVER maintainence"..??

This can not be correct because your engine does not have a coolant filter. Cummins dropped the coolant filter in 2005 ISL engines.

Coolant filter is installed at the option of the coach manufacturer....I believe some Cummins engines after 2005 do have them depending on the make of the coach....although Cummins reps told me that Cummins is comfortable without them due to improved coolants.
