Morrow Mountain State Park is very close to you. Quiet, peaceful; swimming pool open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, hiking, fishing, biking, boating. We lived just north of Monroe in Unionville for 17 years, that was our "home" campground. We loved it.

I would also recommend Creekwood Farms in Waynesville or Rutledge Lake in Fletcher. Both really nice CG.

I would recommend Jellystone in Marion. Great family cg with lots of activities and a wonderful waterslide. For a closer cg look at Cane Creek Park outside of Waxhaw. I also think that Dan Nicholas is great especially if you have younger kids. Lots to do there as well. Good luck finding places. I would not recommend Lake Myers RV resort in Mocksville. It has seen better days IMHO.

If your looking for something along the lines of membership camping you could also look into Travel Resorts of America in Jackson Springs, NC. They seem to be a little pricey up front but once you have established a membership you camp at the Jackson Springs resort as well as another resort in Gettysburg for free. Included in the membership is a Coast to Coast membership that get you full amenities at hundreds of other resorts in the US, and Canada for only 10-15 dollars a night.

We stayed in the Uwaharie National Forest last year & went to the zoo. We also visited Marrow Mountain State Park for a day and did a little hiking. Both are nice & you can see alot of wildlife.

Definitely try High Rock Campground. It's only 45 minutes from Concord. We go up Hwy. 49 to Hwy. 8. It's far enough away but still close to home. We've been going there for 6 years. It has full hookup. Dan Nicholas is also nice, but no full hookups.

Try Mountain Stream RV Park outside Marion, NC for mountain trips, takes about 2 hours to get there.

Stay away from Lake Myers and the other one in Mocksville. We have also tried Cross Country and Wildlife Woods by Lake Norman, neither is much to write home about.

We live about 5 miles from Lake Norman State Park. We've never camped there (was going to this past weekend, but weather decided otherwise for us). Have driven through the campground a couple times and it seems not too bad. If you go there before we do, let us know. Or if you plan to go there some weekend, let us know when and we will see if we will be able to as well.

Marion has several nice campgrounds. Along with Jellystone, Buck Creek Campground is nice and they even have a driving range on premise for the golfers. One of our favorite places is hereMountain StreamIt gives you links to Gem mining that is close by. You just can't beat it for peace and quiet. Very clean. This Place; in Asheville is niceWilsons and has the best city/county greenway park around next door as well as the French broad river that runs behind the campground.

Can you give more info on Buck Creek? Have noticed it looks like some seasonal sites. Which area is used for basic visitors; can you get a site on the river? This is on our list of places to try. I do know that the driving range is lighted at night.
