Wife said she was driving the Excursion (V-10) and came to a stoplight and realized that it had died apparently as she was slowing to a stop. After she realized that she had to put it in park, it started right back up.
She said that the CEL was on before she cranked it up. The CEL did not stay on after it started back up.
She drove into town, picked up a BD cake, came home. No more troubles. Is this a well known issue with V-10s?
I've heard of the 7.3psd and bad CPS. But, this is a V-10.
Any ideas?

It happened to my 5.4 Expedition once a couple of years ago. I worried for a while but since it never happened again I blew it off. Probably will not have any codes stored for such an intermittent concern.

Most likely an idle air valve sticking a bit, but when you pull codes you could have half a dozen in their from it stalling, you have weed out the bogus codes.

had that happen a few times on the dodge but no codes show up at all had the air intake cleaned out, thru in some injector cleaner and that helped some but hasnt done it lately since the weather warmed up.

Yep. Idle control motor.
Often does not set a code but stalling gets worse. Eventually it will only start/idle with a little bit of throttle.

You ever change the fuel filter on the frame??? My expediton did that a couple times, changed the filte and plugs, filter was nasty and plugs pretty well worn..
also she said the CEL was on before.. well maybe when it died she seen it on, becasue it lights up when the key is on and engine not running??

You might want to check here....http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/
You wil need to drill down............
About half way down I found:
Make : FORD Model : EXCURSION Year : 2001
Manufacturer : FORD MOTOR COMPANY
Service Bulletin Number : 14454 Date of Bulletin : NOV 01, 2000
NHTSA Item Number : 616538
Component : ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING ENGINE:GASOLINE
Summary :
SOME VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 7.3L ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT A NO-START OR ENGINE STALL CONDITION. ENGINEERING IS INVESTIGATING. *TT
Check to Request Research. Submit below.
Some of the latest reports indicate a gelling of the fuel.

Right on the money!!!. It's the IAC. It is behind the throttle body on the V10's. Two bolts and an electrical connector to remove. Use some carb cleaner and try to clean it, if there are still problems you will need to replace it.
