I think you want this box but a little taller and sized for a pair of golf batteries. Sealed & Vented battery box.

I don't think you are going to find it. You may need to make a custom box or get the above and put some group 27 or 29 12 volt batteries in it.

Thank you! You understand! But this is what I have now and it isn't large enough for the two 6V batteries. So what I need is a larger version of this box... seems so simple.

I have found a source that can custom build such a box. Minimum quantity is 1000 boxes. Anyone else need a box. (I can't believe I would really do this!)

Keep the ideas comming!

I've been looking as well and can't find one either. But I'll buy one if you get them to do it and price is reasonable...so now we only need 998 more people to step up.

I'm thinking I'll go the Rubbermaid container route and build one myself.

Since you have two of those I think you could make them taller with a 2" thick plywood or solid wood shim cut to match the shape. Some long srews and you are in business. I am not sure it needs to be perfectly sealed as long as the top captures the light hydrogen and allows it to pass out the top.

I did see a site that builds custom wood boxes. I think they said it was $400 and you choose the size. It also lists a premade costom box for what it says is 2v batteries but it sure looks like a pair of 6v might fit. http://www.energyalternatives.ca/catalogue/Categories/162.htm

BurbMan,

Thanks, but again these boxes are not sealed around the top. But what if two were purchased, the tops thrown away and one turned upside down fastened on top of the other....

But at $100 box, $200 would be an expensive (and tall) box.

I am not sure they would need to make an air tight seal. As long as the lid captures the lighter than air H2 gas and funnels it outside I think you would be fine. If you fabricated a watering system you could caulk the boxes air tight. Or use some foam rubber to make a pretty good gasket.
Just some random thoughts, good luck.

For proper venting, you need the vent at the top to allow the hydrogen gas to escape and another at the bottom to let air in.

The "assembly" has to be isolated from the living quarters - hence the need for a sealed container for batteries not installed in sealed compartments.

Exactly my dillema. My local RV store has these sealed boxes for Group 24 & Group 27 batteries that are vented in the bottom and top. Neither are tall enough for even one GC2 battery.

What really puzzles me is that I can go to the local hardware store and find drain basins for landscaping, SUV storage boxes, tool boxes, chainsaw carrying cases, outdoor flower pots, etc. all made from this really cool tough, acid resistant, strong, structural foam plastic. All of these boxes (almost regardless of the size) are around the $20-$40 range. But for some reason, no one has taken the initiative to mold a vented box for GC2 or dual GC2 batteries.

I would think that the manufacturer of the box that Burbman posted could have a optional top/lid molded for their existing box that would create a sealed enclosure. The lid could also have a pre molded extrusion to connect the top vent pipe. The bottom vent could simply be drilled with a hole saw.

During one of my many trips to Lowes trying to find a suitable enclosure, I came across this "Laundry Tray" (bottom of page) that has a sealed box for water collection. The top is also sealed to keep water from overflowing the top. I assume that water tight would also mean air tight. They also have a really cool drain hose kit (near bottom of page) that just happens to be the same diameter as my existing vent hose. (This hose is only $8...).
