We thought it was fun, went last year.

In case anyone is interested, it IS HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE. My wife road her scooter all over inside and out. They have an elevator just for handicapped people (as they also do in Rhode Island). Be sure to tell them upon going in gate as you will want a parking lot that has shuttle to house that can carry the scooter. Note lower gardens are really nice, and easy to miss, just ask.

It is quite a place and as others have said there is more to it than just the house.

I am glad I did it once and would recommend the visit to others but wouldn't go through a second time at $45 a person.

For grandeur on the cheap, visit the Grove Park Inn. Who's who stay there when visiting Asheville. Best part, you can go in and walk around for free.

No other place like it, only you can decide if it is worth it.

Pay the money. You won't regret it. I hope the $45 includes the audio tour; if it doesn't - pay more. It is quite an experience. We paid $45 each two years ago and that did include the audio, so I'm a little surprised it didn't go up. I would say it was worth every penny and my husband would agree - and I kind of had to drag him kicking and screaming. He says to definitely go through the basement.
It's quite a place. Money must be nice

Similar prices for Hearst Castle in California. As to the do it again test; maybe.

Hearst Castle runs $20-24 with the evening tour $30. I would consider Hearst Castle a much better value if you are in the area.

It was a hoot reading all of your responses! It's really amazing to see how we all view things differently. After reading all the positive feedback that many of you posted, we discussed going again. That being said... we opted to bow out and to go ruby mining instead. Which was a blast. What we are learning is that it really doesn't matter what we do. A day out fishing is as much fun as a day touring the Biltmore. It's all about balance. We will be doing the expensive attractions around Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Stay tuned...

Two wise Ones - hate you have decided not to go to Biltmore. Have fun in Williamsburg and Busch Gardens - we have been to both - they are ok - wouldn't return to either.
