I have about $90,000 in RVing equipment. At age 65, I have maybe 10 more years while I'm healthy enough to use it. Towed about 8000 miles last year at an estimated fuel cost of $2400.

If I go that far this year, which I probably won't, it will likely cost me as much as $1200 more. That is a little more than 1% of my investment.

In my situation and at this point in life I will not wait for fuel prices to get better.

LIFE IS WAITING.

No, we will not be cancelling any trips this summer due to gas prices. I hope to get out more this summer than we did last. I am hoping for every weekend. Though they wont be more than an hour or two ride away.

Hubby is grumbling about it....but I just can't see curbing my life this year. We curbed a little last year, but now, as I see I only really have 3 more years with DD, I'm biting the bullet and calling it a cost of living debt that I have to live with!

Frankly, it is refreshing to read all the positive responses about vacationing in spite of high gas prices. Fortifies my faith in campers enjoying the outdoors and companionship with families and fellow campers. We will do the same in a couple of weeks, getting about 9 miles/gal. So what. I like that: “spending the kid’s inheritance.” Let’m earn their own.
If we didn’t have other obligations, we’d pack tomorrow and head down the coast for some fine Texas fishing, fun inna sun and great food. Otherwise it will be a couple weeks from now.
Life is too short to wait for the impossibility of lower gas prices. Camp On fellow campers! Enjoy what little time we have on this sweet Earth.

Gas Prices make me appreciate our tent. We may need to drive the car instead of the RV though.

We are brand new rvers. We camped for years when our children were young and just got a terrific deal on a used rv. With the money we saved,(because of high gas prices and the slump in sales) we are planning our first trip in July from Virginia to New Mexico to see our son. I think everything comes out a wash in the end.

Yeah! no more hotel rooms and looking for a place that will take our little dog...we're looking forward to seeing the USA in the years to come!

We are not traveling less but are considering closer to home. I am still working but own the business and able to take 4 and 5 days at a time which is ideal for shorter trips.

I just cancelled my trip for this weekend. Not just the gas (which would run almost $100 for the trip) but everything else. For a weekend trip -- driving 8 hours RT, food, gas, space rental, etc. I just decided to stay home. Not cancelling our long trips this summer, but a weekend trip -- just not worth it, IMO.
