I have not cancelled anything in terms of not going, but I decided one trip in June (to New Hampshire) will be with a tent and car instead of pulling the trailer with the SUV.
I've only got 4.5 days for this trip and it's ~1900 kilometers round trip, so half the time is long days on the road. I figure it's ~2 hours less time each way in a car and I asked myself is $350 more in gasoline worth the advantages of a trailer for three nights: this trip I decided it's not.
On my more reasonable trips I am making no changes to plans this summer.
I am taking a trip to Seattle by way of Yellowstone in June/July. It will be about 5000 miles, so I will spend about $2000.00 just for gas. We can cut back on gas and it won't affect the price much right now. Speculation in oil and the weak dollar are driving the price, not supply and demand. Gas won't be any cheaper next summer and I have only so many chances to go. I'll go now and pay the price. All we will do if we stop traveling is hurt the people who depend on tourism for their livings. I understand if people just can't afford long trips, but if everyone at least travels close to home the tourism industry will not be affected as much. Just my two cents worth.
We are from Vermont and going to Gettysburg, then DC and maybe Williamsburg and wouldn't think of canceling. My brother and sister-in-law are traveling with us, so this may help with the cost.
We have been planning this trip for 6 months as this is the first traveling vacation my brother has had in 10+ years, so there is no way we could cancel for gas prices. I am the only one of the 4 of us that has been to Gettysburg or DC, so, I am excited about "playing" tour guide and everyone is excited about seen everything that these historical places has to offer.
As others have stated, not saving anything if you fly or drive and then have to pay hotel and eating out every night.
I don't know if you have been to Vermont before, but we look forward to your visit to our beautiful Green Mountain state.
Yes. I was planning a 600-mile trip (one-way) this summer, but that trip has been canceled.
I also have my camper up for sale. I will not get any offers. Hence, I am now looking for a campground where I can store my camper and take it out only when I want to visit. The price of gas is forcing big changes that, in my view, are good for our country.
I don't know if you have been to Vermont before, but we look forward to your visit to our beautiful Green Mountain state.
Actually, I've traveled most of the world and US but have a real yearning to see Vermont and Conneticut. I've seen beautful pictures of both and understand there aren't any large cities in Vermont, only small homey towns.
Where would be the best place to visit in Vermont?

Can't say I haven't thought about cancelling our trip to Yellowstone in Aug, but I'm not going to. As has been said above, life is too short to keep putting things off. Seeing the rockies is on our list of must do's before we go to the big campground in the sky. Gas won't get much if any cheaper even if the speculators quit speculating. Who ever heard of lowering prices back to where they used to be, just don't happen.
We have however decided to take along the tent and basecamp the trailer.
