This summer we are going to the East coast and then on to Eastern Canada and from there we will stop to see buddies on the way back to Tucson AZ in late August to rest up for our trip to Utah. (Note) we drive R/T 210 and get 16 mpg.

Orginally when I bought my truck back in 2003 is when the prices began to creep up and it cost about $55 to fill up. It now takes about $70-$75-$80. Thats about $25 more in gas each fill up. Thats a take out meal for a family of 5 on a budget. I figure we cut out a take out meal a couple times a month and let the good times roll. Can't put a price on a great vacation. Also my uncle George Bush is sending some extra cash our way. A little for the house and a little for vacation. Lastly, I work 21-22 days a month and usually buy a big big soda for 90 cents/daily. Thats another $22 I could save. I don't think the gas prices are right but I'll cut out other non-neccesities before I cut out the family vacation. JMHO HAPPY CAMPING....

Thankfully, our big trip to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons was last year. This year we are staying closer to home in Colorado and local spots in New Mexico. Nice thing about New Mexico is there are a lot of places south in the winter and north in summer that are not too far away.

Still taking a lot of trips this year though.

Gonna start feeding our C vegetable oil soon!

What the heck, life is short. Like the sticker on some RV's say "I'm spending my children's inheritance". They'll just blow it on foolishness, why not me? I earned it, and I did without all those years to live the good life. It will just cost a little more than we expected.

On a serious note, I really feel for those that have to cut back. As I am sure most of them are younger families having other obligations more pressing. I really hope things improve so they can get back to enjoying their vacations, that I am sure are truly needed.

Fortunately my Avalanche pulls our pup without using that much gas. Im thinkin we get about 14-16 miles to the gallon so it isnt really affecting us too much. I gotta admit Im glad we arent heading to Niagara Falls Ontario as we did 2 summers ago or East Harbor St. Park in Ohio last summer. My honey has a 1 1/2 hour comute to work each way so he bought a hybrid Toyota Prius last summer and it has really helped him save money going to and from work each day!

We almost cancelled our trip to Charleston/Savannah next month and I remembered how much fun it was last year. I will just make more Biodiesel to take with us to offset the cost.

With the price of Diesel now at $4.49 we decided we will only be making one long trip to Oregon this year. We will still take lots of long vacations at some of our favorite spots in California. Yes the price of Fuel stinks but it's not gonna keep us home...just closer to it

I never thought this post would get so much attn when I started it. After reading all the input, we have decided to take the trip to Vt and just stay closer to home for our other outings. As one poster said, you only live once, and it's best to go while we have good health and can enjoy it.

Well, I have to say that we are still heading out on two long trips. One to Niagara Falls and the other to Myrtle Beech. How I see it, I will only have so much more time with my kids. One in 7th grade and the other in 3rd, my years with them are numbered. So, I will pay what it takes to get them there. I am also happy that these are shorter trips than last years Yellowstone trip...

We are cutting back in other areas and taking shorter trips. As posted earlier, we are not going to let our favorite past time be ruined by the high gas prices. Our son just finished his sophomore year in college and still enjoys going along with us. Enjoy every minute you can with your kids, the day is coming when their own lives will be far more busy than we'd like.
