I recently underwent Lung Volume Reduction Surgery at Duke Medical Center in NC. For the previous 5 years, I was on oxygen 24/7 and got short of breath rather easily. After surgery, I only need to wear O2 while on the recumbent bike, walking the track, and while sleeping. I no longer get short of breath and it's just such a feeling of freedom...not having to drag the portable along everywhere we go...although I DO keep it in the truck 'just in case'.
We've been staying in our fiver at a campground here in NC and will be here until 5/30 (end of post-op rehab) and then we're hitting the road for goodness-knows-where.
If anyone here has or knows someone else who has emphysema, please ask them to get evaluated for this surgery. It is an option open to those of us who don't really have many options.
