Wally I completely agree with you on the "PARTY POOPER" line. That was uncalled for. However It is POSSIBLE tthat your excuse "MY WIFE HAS A MIGRAINE" could have been a factor also. LET ME EXPLAIN. As you SHOULD be worried for your wife (My Wife & I both get migraines frequently -- she has my sympathies) The other parent you spoke to likely didnt care about her problems. (She could have laid in bed as opposed to sitting at the dinette)
**INSTEAD**Maybe you should have asked the parent to remove his children from the tree because you was worried that THE KIDS MAY FALL and possible injuries. I feel that parent might have accepted that excuse a little better.
#Im certainly not blaming you--I still think that parent could have been more understanding. Just food for thought.

You could always resort to "Plan-B:"

Next time, do what you did the first time. Give the kids' parents one chance. Politely ask them to quiet down a bit and please get out of the tree. If that doesn't work, initiate "Plan-B."

When it's dark at night and everybody is in bed, get a stick of butter and grease up every limb on that tree. Butter up the entire trunk of the tree too. Bacon grease or Crisco works even better. (Don't use petroleum based grease, only food grade stuff). Grease it up really really good and gooey.

Perhaps when the disturbing party next door is gone for the day, you could load up their camp ground with some nice Pepsi around the base of the picnic table too. They'll be in for a big surprise.....Instant ant farm.

Then you can sit back in your chair under your awning with a cold drink and watch the kids trying to "have fun" on that ant infested tree. The kids won't touch the tree, it'll be too greasy. They'll move on to disturb their own "zoo keepers" (aka: parents).

I know, I know. Some here will be ticked off that I even mentioned this. But, if my wife had a migrane and the parents didn't give a hoot about their out of control kids, I'd do what I had to do within reason. The butter on the tree thing is basically "rug-rat repellant."

Kids will be kids, but, if they're too loud and running through others campsites, irritating people, the parents should be responsible enough to make them stop....especially if asked nicely by someone! It's common courtesy to not believe in the statement "between the hours of 8am-10pm, anything goes"...what kind of campers believe in that? I'm sure in this case, if the kids were within their own campsite, maybe even being a little loud, it may have been OK! Sounds like they were a little out of control to me!

I believe in the whole "two sides to every story" saying. Im not saying you didnt have a right to request the kids not play on the tree. I suffer from migrains as well and know how camping with one is. The point Id like to make is this, you asked the first day stating your wife had a headache and the noise was bothering her. He politely complied with your request. The second day, you come home from a scouting thing and again ask to remove the kids from the tree stating your wife has a headache. You ever think the other guy thought you were making up excuses just to get rid of his kids? I mean, you just came home from being out all day and low and behold, she has yet another headache. Not everyone understands how bad a migrain can be and how long they can last. He could have been mad thinking you are just making up stories so you can get rid of them.

The comment may have been out of line, Im not defending nor passing judgement. Just trying to show we only know one side.

The parents should have moved the kids from your site. That is your rented property for the weekend. As far as your Wife's migrain, I do feel for her but kids are kids. They have a right to have fun druing the day. Maybe you should bring some ear plugs next time just in case.

I feel for your DW. My DW get migraines that last for days and she is miserable. I have camped for a lot of years and we have stayed in a lot of non camping environments as well. We found that the camping environment has always been the most respectful and well mannered group until recently. We have found a new breed of camper/RVer has crept into the campgrounds. and are not pleased with the trend at all. No respect, manners, or camping etiquette at all. Probably 90% of the folks we camp around are still the best people you would ever want to meet, but that other 10%; oh boy. In the situation discussed here; and this is what we see as well, all you had to do to see what you were dealing with was to listen to the parent and the party pooper comment. When we run across unruly, no manners, disrespectful children, we usually find the parents are no different. The sad part is;in my opinion, it is only going to get worse. I am sorry you had a bad weekend and I hope your DW gets better.

Its a way for him to not take responsibility just like he wasn't taking responsibility when he let his kids be so loud. By saying you are making them get out of the tree he is saying it's not my fault and you are the authority figure.. Makes a lot of sense why his kids run wild now doesn't it?

Not saying it's right...

I would not have been that patient. You rented that space and they should have respected that. I can get very loud and vocal and at some point patience wears out. You have every right to have peace and some quite while you rent that space. I would not put up with it for very long. Next time don't put up with it, you don't have to.

I wasn't going to respond to this again. But I want to leave a few more points..

1. Most people find that I rarely color things different than they usually are. I am the first one trying to consider the other side. With that said, just more than a day passed between both incidents.

2. With respect to my wife's Migranes. She can take medicine, but it will make her just about loose the day and she tries to maintain a balance so she can be a part of the family.

3. With the temps in the 80's and no hookups, the only option for being in the trailer was to have the windows open. Now laying on the bed or sitting in the dinette made little difference. She was laying on the bed.

4. We were gone most of the day Saturday at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. I don't think we were too bad of neighbors.

5. One of my biggest peeves is people walking through my camp. I am the first one to say something when someone does it and I make no apologies for doing so. When kids walk through my camp I am polite and tell them politely that it is not acceptable. So to see their kids not just run through my camp but my neighbor to the south, that is just wrong.

I would say despite the kids we had a great weekend, but that is too strong of words. We had a great weekend, my question was to get a general feeling from the forum to ground my own thoughts. Kind of making sure I am not getting all krotchety (sic).
There are those that would degrade me and make comments that I am making things up, this is a place for free speech and they are entitled. I did not come on here to argue and complain. I asked and have received answers to that end, I say thank you all. I do not wish to argue any of the points (further?).

All seriousness aside... The butter may not work. Maybe I can bring a contractors generator next time and when they get in the tree I can just fire it up?... Oh wait.. My wife had a migrane...
But several generators were stolen from the CG on friday night.. This is after the Fatal shark attack... May the gentleman rest in peace and his family find solace that he is in a better place...

No it is not free game. I find screaming kids to be obnoxious and unnecessary. Allowing your kids to disturb the campground is no different than rap music blaring so it also disturbs the campground. Now if your kids are making a reasonable amount of noise that can be heard just at your campsite, then that's OK. But thinking non-quiet hours allows you or your kids to make as much noise as they want is inconsiderate and irresponsible.
