I don't camp on BLM land simply because I don't know anything about it. Where to go, what's allowed or not? Can any of you give me some personal recommendations for secluded camping in the Ca. Sierras. We like to fish.

A guy named Tom Stienstra has written a book called "California Camping" (Foghorn Outdoors Book) for many years, and updates it every year or so. He is an avid outdoorsman, and an enthusiastic fisherman! His book is available on line or most bigger bookstores for around @$25.00. Fantastic resource for what you are looking for! Secluded campsites, ratings, ammenities and directions for each campground, unique features and best of all, fishing info! BLM, private and public campgrounds, some places are only known by locals! Many of them are not on any reservations systems. He has a little box above the description of the campsite, that says "5% club", which means only 5% of all campers even know about this campground! Really great!

I would have to second that, I love "California Camping!" I have one copy dedicated to the motorhome and one in the house. The book is excellent.
The info is easy to find and there are maps before each section that indicate where each campground is located. This makes it very easy to find campgrounds at the last minute.

Lone Pine Camping
Heres a link to the areas around Lone Pine. I guess Turtle Creek was free but it looks like its gone to $5 per night. Turtle Creek has fishing. I dont have any firsthand experience with Lonepine but its well known by long term BLM campers in Southern Calif.

I went to Big Pine Creek last 4th of July and everyone was walking back form the creek with strings of fish.
The campground was awesome, just reserve a spot ahead of time, it does fill up. It's not exactly secluded, but I'm sure there are some areas around there that would accommodate your camper.

In general, the east side has the best trout streams; the steeper gradient than the west slope makes for clear and cold trout heaven. Also, there's less camping pressure than in the National Forests/Parks on the west slope.
Check out Bishop Creek, the lakes in that basin like Sabrina and North Lakes, also the country to the west of Bridgeport (Twin Lakes), and up by Sonora Pass.

I am currently camped in a very secluded spot close to the Owens Gorge. There is great fishing less than a mile from here.

Define secluded, please. Drive to? Hike to, and if so how far? I don't fish, but have a lot of Eastern Sierra dayhiking and camping experience and guidebooks so I could probably provide info if your request were more specific.
Here's a general link to start you out - Eastern Sierra fishing info
Stienstra has also written a California Fishing book which includes the Sierras.

and how far north do you want to travel? The Sierras don't stop at Lake Tahoe, the best part runs further north to the Plumas County area. Lake Almanor north is technically the Cascades, but is still lumped in with the Sierras for Chamber of Commerce purposes.
