We were just up the hill from Bishop when the truck from the hatchery came. I didn't know any better and had always thought they stocked with little minnow sized fish. Boy, was I wrong. They were all sizes.
Saw quite a few in the stream at a cg on the road up from Lee Vining to Yosemite near the top. It is at the beginning of a road up to a lake on the edge of Hoover Wilderness. (Hope I have that name correct.) I would think that lake would have some but I don't know that for sure.
Only trout fished while backpacking in Utah. Always carried a can of tuna but never had to use it.

The lake which dontay describes might be Saddlebag Lake, in the Mono Lake Ranger District of Inyo NF.

Actually, it's not Sierras, it's Sierra. Same for Himalaya.

Shooer,
You might try a trip from Bishop, up salty Peterson's grade to Coyote Flats (10,000 ft) and on up the rough jeep road to Funnel Lake. Big time fishing. Hard to get to.
You've got 4wd and a TC. You'll be in low range for about 3 hrs getting there.
regards, as always, jefe

Wow, I'll have to think that one over.10,000 feet? I'm not sure my carburetor will work that high. Now that would be quite a trip. Hmmm.

Try Goodale BLM camp. A small stream runs right through it, it's secluded and quiet, and no bad roads or high altitude problems. I don't know if anyone fishes in the stream.
