Take I-83 t0 I-695 South to I-97 S to 3-301 South . Take 301 South to I-95. You will have a few traffic lights around Waldorf,Md and a toll crossing the Potomac river bridge. There is a Flying J at 95 where you will be getting on. Probably the cheapest fuel stop until SC.

I guess we'll just try to avoid the busy times. It seems that every time I travel 95, just south of Arlington everything comes to a screeching halt till I get past Ocoquan. I wonder if the construction at the Woodrow Wilson bridge is still a problem.
Bill.

It is during the rush hours. Just come in the middle of the day, or take one of the listed scenic routes.

We always take Route 15 South to Route 29 to Opel than Route 17 East to Fredericksburg onto I-95 South it can be busy on I-95 to Richmond but it can't be as bad as going around Baltimore and DC on I-95.The bypass around Richmond is not that bad as long as as it is not rush hour.

Here is solution...Dont follow 83 to York...In Harrisburg go 1 more exit west to Rt 15.....take that south to 29 to 17....puts you back on 95 way south of DC....Nice ride...have done it often....the extra 15 minutes this route takes could save you an hour sitting in traffic/construction.

Bill,
I see that you are from York. We live in the DC area and my advice would be to come down I83 to the Baltimore beltway and go west to I70. Take I 70 west to route 29 south. 29 south to the DC beltway. West on the DC beltway will avoid you the fun of the Wilson Bridge mess and put you on to 95 south bound at the Springfield interchange which is now completed. We travel the Springfield interchange from the west and it is a breeze to negotiate, ( I even drive this portion now LOL).
I hope that this helps and as above try to make it to southbound 95 by lane change time and you should have no problems.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip.
Brenda

I did the Waldorf MD route avoiding 95, 2 yrs ago on a Sat and spent quite a bit of time in stop and go traffic. Pretty built up and lots of shoppers. maybe i was on the wrong road.
