I bought a 2007 Silverado quad cab (4 full size doors - New body style) last summer. 1500 half ton with the tow package. Nothing "special" about it. I received my PA registration with a class 2 sticker to put in the window. This is my third 1/2 ton truck and all my others were class 1. Friends at work who just bought new 1/2 ton trucks (not Chevy's) are also registered as class 1. Class 2 means higher tolls and more expensive yearly registration for me.
Any other PA silverado owners out there with the same experience? I'm trying to figure out why? If you look at the class tables, all 1/2 ton trucks should be be class 2 based on gross weight, but this is not the case.
When I had my 1/2 ton the dealership tried to tell me I had to have class II. After the first year I went and dropped it to the class one. Now with my 3/4 ton again the dealer told me I needed to have a Class 3. Again after a year I went and dropped it to a class 2. The 3/4 ton was too heavy to be a class 1.
I do not know what the weights are but your owners card should have a range like 5000<9000 or something like that.
Oh yeah. Your last question. Your Gross weight is a range of weight your vehicle might be based on the load in the bed of your truck. If your truck is used for towing and you will never put a load in the bed you have nothing to worry about with a class one rating.
Hope this helps.

When GM changed body style in 99 I had a lot of friends bought new 1/2 tons all had class 2 stickers based on Max gross vehicle weight. I had a 99 3/4 ton x-cab reg. duty it had a class 2 sticker. When I trade it in on my 06 reg cab 3/4 ton it came with a class 3 sticker. speaking of which the registration just came in the mail today $153. This is going to be a lite year for me on registration fee I don't need to renew my drivers licence $100 plus that comes due next year. Truck, trailblazer, motorcycle. TT and drivers licence all come due with in a few weeks of each other. There goes the better part of a pay check to the state at one time.

Did pendot give you any hassle when you went to drop it? What forms are involved?
No problem at all from the DOT. I went to one of those instant title places and they did all the paperwork for me in less then 10 minutes. I also think AAA will do it for you if you are a member.

Thank You for the comeback.
Bought my '03Rado new from dealer...He tells me there's been an extra spring added, so I'm bumped up to a class 2, therefore I'm paying $86 instead of $56....4x30=$120...
I did check DOT and the closest I found was form MV-44, but that's just to obtain a replacement. Your way sounds a lot easier, I'll check with DW, she likes to use the IT places you describe.
Unfortunately this year is gone, March I used to be up on things of this nature, but I hear the memory is the second thing to go...
