I am 22 years old and have been camping a few times each year since I was little. My camping experience has been a mixture of tent, pop up, and cabin. I have the spare money right now (about $4000) to buy a pop up camper. The issue is that I'm the only one who really wants to camp now a days. To compound things, I live in an apartment and therefore I do not have anywhere to store a pop up. Most of my friends would rather do something else and I don't have a girlfriend (most girls around my age don't care much for camping anyways). I'm debating whether or not it makes sense for me to buy a pop up camper right now? Most people that have RVs seem to be married at the least and most have their kids with them. Perhaps it would make more sense to save the $4000 and let it grow in savings in order to pay for a nice camper when I am married? I could add to my camping gear now and come up with a nice tent setup for less than $1000.

When did most of you buy your first RV? Would I be better off to save the money and just tent camp for now? What are your suggestions?

Now is a really good time to buy. However in your shoes it would probably be wiser to invest the money in a CD and let it grow. You can always buy a tent and tent camp for a few more years. You would be amazed how many singles camp around this part of the country.

I started w/ a tent at 19 and got my first TC at 22. Camping is alot more fun if you have someone along to share the experience with you. Best of luck on your decision.

Chicks dig campers, i say go for it before gas is $7 a gallon. Maybe keep your camper at a friends. I Find it hard to believe you dont know anyone that likes to camp/party/fish. Maybe you could join a camping club.

I was 20 when I bought my first trailer, a new Jayco tent trailer, towed behind my Dads old 67 Chevy pick up. I had a blast discovering California, by myself and with my buddies. The girlfriends, wife, family and all the rest can wait till later. I was already a Police Officer, and needed the time away from the job to maintain my sanity. It worked! I've been married 22 years now, have two teen kids, a home mortgage and I'm now retired after 30 years as a cop. Still RVing! Go experience life, and "boldly go where no man has gone before!" Take care!

You should see if there is any camping clubs in your area, then get a tent and go and enjoy camping with the group.

I found this one VACampers.com

We are now seniors and have a 5th wheel but camped for 30 years in pop-ups and they have many advantages. One is that they hold their value pretty well; therefore, don't carry much financial risk if you decide its not for you. I encourage you to not pass up the joys of camping as a way of travel and to enjoy the great outdoors. And, I have no doubt you can find a female companion to share it with you. While camping may not be considered the coolest thing to do, there are lots of youngsters who love it or will if they try it.

I camped a lot when I was your age. If I knew then what know now, I would have bought a small trailer. First, it makes caming soo much better, warm bed, hot meal and cold beer!! Second, chicks dig a all of the first thing I said!!!!! My wife and I are together today because of our love for camping!!! Yep she's a keeper!!!!
