I got a 1988 36' Travel Master with a gasoline Ford 460. It will start up and idle just fine. You can rev it up okay...no problem. When you get on the road.. and get up to 35mph..or so...it dies. The only way to get it going again is to put it in neutral...and restart it. It will start right back up and again...idle fine. It did the same thing last year and I replaced the inline fuel filter..that looks like a upside down can next to where you put the gas in and waaa laa...it worked fine after that. Tried it again this year...but this time, it didn't solve the problem. Anyone ever had one do this before?

Your catalytic converter may be plugged. Have had similar problems on two different vehicles and that was the fix. On one I just gutted it and put it back on and the car ran fine. It would not pass a emission test, but I wasn't required to do that.

An '88 probably has a carb- the original has a fuel filter right at the carb inlet as well. Might check that.
(Note- I can never, ever remember how to spell car-bur-A-tor - and can usually not get close enough for the spell checker ).

The 460v/8, had to have a lot of fuel pressure to operate right. The above is good advice, check at the carb. inlet and change that filter.
If you can not get the pressure up after changing filters - may have to replace the fuel pump, that year may have the pump in the fuel tank, can not remember?

Take care

Check at the carb, not near. There may be a very fine mesh filter right on the carb. My dad used to pack two spares. Lack of power is most likely lack of fuel. I seem to remember a solid tube with a nut had to be disconnected right on the carb. I can't remember what it looked like but it was about the size of ten quarters stacked together if any memory cells are working.

okay...I found a filter that is where the line goes into the carb.. at least i think its a filter. It feels like a grinding stone...shaped like a cork..and is golden color. I guess thats the only thing that it could be. Ill go by the parts store tomorrow morn and get a new one and see if that fixes the problem. thanks everyone!

If you are Lucky enough to have an Electric Fuel Pump and it likely has one It should be a "Holley Red" available at Checkers Etc for about $100 + ! Don't toss the Old one as it can be rebuilt for use as a spare!Don't be spooked by the "Not Legal for sale in California " label, We bought Ours in Yreka Ca.

Hey, while you are at it run some fuel through the system with the fuel feed disconnected from the carbueretor. You never know when you might get a chunk of something.
