Check the limits of your TV and if it is within GCVWR see if the seller will let you hook to it for a test-tow. If it works well, make the buy.

Though a 1/2 ton can pull ALOT more than people on here would lead you to believe, I think the 4.6 might be a little under powered depending on the weight of your TT and what gearing you have in your TV.
I pull a 28ft TT with a 5.3 and 4.10's and I'm zooming along at 70mph no problem. I charge up and down hills with ease with my setup but I do have some mods to my rear suspension, swap control etc that help with making my TT pull easily. Like others have said, need more info.

I had a 1987 HiLo 25' and pulled it with a GMC Sierra 1500 with 5.3L and 3.73 rear end, it knew it was there but not too bad.

I pull a 24' TT with a 5.3L with 3.73 axle and have no problems. My TT is catching a lot more wind than the Hi-Lo.

I also pulled with an F-150 with the 4.6L and a 3:55 rear axle... That truck was a 1997 Flareside model and was equipped with Gibson Catback, Airaid, and Chip...
The truck did OK with a #4000 full size TT - adequate power even in the Smokies but in 2nd gear pulling the grades... When I purchased my 27' previously owned TT at #6400, the 4.6 fell flat on it's face - couldn't make over 60 MPH with my foot in the firewall...
Now that 27' Nomad was a full size TT with a higher wind profile than the HiLo... If your truck has a 3:73 rear axle (don't think it was available in 97), my guess is you would probably do pretty good with the lower wind resistance of the HiLo... If you have the 3:55 it still might be acceptable with the lower wind profile but you'll be sneaking up on your max GVWR/GCWR so be careful here...
Your trailer's weight and rear axle rating of the truck would be helpful in determining performance, but it seems to me that you might be on the ragged edge with your setup if the truck has a 3:55 or numerically lower (3:42) axle rating...

The insurance company has decided (finally) to write my 2500HD off so Im down to my 91 F150 farm truck... while I wont be towing any distance with it, I can tow my 29 foot Springdale (7750 gross)at 50 miles per hour without any problems... 302 engine with 3:55 gear ratio.
I wouldn't want to drive more then 3 hours at a time with this setup, but till I decide what to buy next it may have to do...

But, at 26', I'm going to say right off the bat that I wouldn't tow anything that big with a 1/2ton vehicle. Once your truck is loaded with gear and your family, combined with the trailer fully loaded, you're really straining your vehicles limitations.
Just my personal opinion.
What has The lenght got to do with this anyway Has little to do with the weight. It is certainly not to long for the truck, and is a Hi-Lo. so it won't be catching air, either from the front or sides.
Weight will be the main concern.
To the OP
With the 4.8, and if it has 3.73s. Your tow cap will be around 6000lbs or so. So it all depends on what the Hi-Lo weighes. Have seen some with a dry weight of 4200lbs. around that, or less. You would probably be good.
Somebody soon will send you to RV tips. It is good for weight and carrying capacities. But not for lenght.
At 26' his trailer is probably close to 5,000 lbs. Maybe slightly less. If his truck is good to about 6000lbs, he's pushing his limit. Straining the truck.
At 1997, the truck is worn pretty good. I say go buy a new truck with some better tow capabilites. In fact, go buy a good USED truck that has a higher tow rating, closer to 10,000lbs.

Yes
You will have problems.
I have a 22 ft HILO and I had a 1999 F150 4.6 v8, 3.55 rear end. Any grade and it started down shifting. When I was going up to highway speed between 45 and 50 mph I started getting real bad sway to were it was go faster or go slower but not at that speed. I would not recommend the F150 equipt as above. I kind of upgraded to a GMC Duramax Allison combo and I am real happy. I went to a state HILO camp out and talked to some long time HILO owners. I asked about a tow vehicle the answers were all over the place except for two men one was gritting his teeth and another one was real smug. The guy gritting his teeth latter told me his biggest mistake was getting rid of the Diesel pick up, the other guy said go with diesel you will not be sorry . That was 5 years ago and I do not regret getting the DURAMAX. We had planned a trip to the rockies and the F150 would not have made it safely. I have gotten 20 mpg towing on a 500mile trip basically flat 2 lane high way. My usual towing MPG is 17-18 mpg. Of the top of my head I figure my HILO fully loaded for camping is a little over 5000 lbs. I don't have the exact weight handy.
