Hello everyone,
I wanted to take the family up to see the falls this year. I have a questions about where to camp at either in the States or in Canada.
Also, do you need a passport to exit/enter the States as I live in PA. I have heard "rumors" that you didn't, but that was going to change in the summer.
Thanks for any input!

I stayed at KOA on this side. IIRC they had a shuttle to the falls, etc.
I think the passport thing is still in "limbo" however. might speed up your passage to have one.

Lundy Lane is nice, lot of rigs, but clean and close to the falls. From what I have seen the canadian side is a bit cleaner. don't miss the butterfly conservatory AWESOME. We had passports, but I don't think they were needed yet, but it did go REAL SMOOTH in and out.

Four Mile Creek State Park is beautiful on the US side...your campground parking pass gets you free parking at the State Park parking lot at the falls and the road is a straight shot there. Go to the AAA site to see the the most current info about border crossing...be careful what you take with you.

I live on the Canadian side by Niagara Falls and suggest you look at http://www.riversidepark.net/ which is about 10 minutes drive from the falls. It is right on the Niagara River, has a pool and mini golf as well as a motel component. The sites are level, gravel, fully serviced and fairly well spaced.
Please give yourself time to see the falls, you can do it in a day if you rush but two days are better and three even better.
The Niagara Park Commission at http://www.niagaraparks.com/ offers a 'Adventure Pass' which is well worth the price. They run a People Mover bus system along the busy stretch of the Falls which is a 'hope on - hope off' system allowing you to park your car in their large lot South of the Falls for a fairly low fee and ride the bus. Last year the bus from that lot to the falls was free. One day's use is included in the Adventure Pass, if you want to ride the bus to the other attractions along the river on further days there is a fee.
Do make sure to go on the 'Maid of the Mist' http://www.maidofthemist.com/en/ as it is the most magnificent way to see the falls and appreciate the power of the falls. The Maid boats are accessible from both the USA and Canadian sides of the river.
Hope you enjoy your visit.

my vote is for the candaian side if you have children, there was not a lot to do on the NY side of the falls.I HIGHly recommend the cave of the winds walk on the NY side and the boardwalk at the base of the falls. this was a blast for me and the children. Go to my web albums and check out some pics of the falls. All the pictures are from the american side. the fireworks were taken from the island between the american and bridal falls. A very neat spot to watch the fireworks.

I second Billb1's recommendation for Riverside. I would also visit Fort Erie and if you're there the weekend of August 9 & 10, go to see the 22nd Annual Siege of Fort Erie.

Thanks so much for all the information. I was in the Falls years ago and had a great time. The jet boat ride is FUN as well. I warned the wife I may not pack her birth cert. so watch out. lol
O well, again thanks for all the information.
Also, one last thing, I was young and dumb when I 1st was in the Falls, but anyone know if the Auroa (northern lights) can be seen in the Falls area, or do you have to go further north?
Thanks again,
Dan
