I have lived in Southern Ontario for almost 40 years and have not seen the Northern Lights here at all.
When I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba they were very common during the winter months.

thanks to the poster regarding the passport requirements. I was under the impression you needed either a land pass or passport this year, but apparently it does not take effect until next year. Good for us!!

Campark on the Canadian side. Great place. This year they are adding new mini golf and play ground. We are they often during the summer. It is on Lundys Lane.

The outdoors is a wonderful place to be....

another vote for campark on lundy's lane, it makes a great base camp for seeing the area. There is a nice heated pool and hot tub, there is a barn that serves breakfast and they had a pig roast while we were there, we had a duluxe site that had a nice wood deck/patio. The park is cheaper than the KOA which is just down the road. A couple of the downsides are ,the camp store was tiny and only carried a few items, some of the sites are literally right on lundy's lane separated only by a fence so there can be some road noise but it did not bother us too much because we were out sightseeing all day,all in all we enjoyed our stay there and would stay there again.

DW and I went to the Falls last yr. It was a great trip. We stayed on the US side but if we did it again, we would stay in Canada. We too two 1-day tours, 1 day on the US side, the other on the Canadian side. You must do Maid of the Mists, Cave of the Winds, Journey Behind The Falls (my favorite), and the Skylon Tower. These were all on the tours.

we also enjoyed the Floral Clock.

We are going east through that area this summer and plan on visiting the falls as well. We are staying at the Niagara KOA (States side) and definitely learned a few pointers from this thread. Thanks to the OP for asking the question!

Im not sure about the passport thing the last I heard was a licence was all that was needed but I would definitely call to find out. Also I would strongly recommend the Canadian side I live 1 hour from falls and the American side has improved it isnt anywhere near
as nice as neighbors across the border keep things. You will find numerous thing to do on Clifton Hill.HAve a great time and enjoy the falls.

After living in the area for 20 years I would like to recommend you spend some time on the US side on Goat Island and Sisters Island. It is busy in the summer and the tram ride is probably your best bet. The view of the falls from this area is almost UNBELIEVABLE. You can literally touch the Canadaian and American falls. It is easy to miss though. Look for it!! It is also where the Cave of the Winds is located, which I have yet to be brave enough to do and I'm not usually afraid of much of anything!

The falls have their own Aurora-spotlights (colored) shining at night. Also get to the botanical gardens-Canadian side-at midnight for the clock gonging.

Dont liter in Canada-they will get you.
