Hi folks, first post on the forum. And the first question, too.

My father has put in a little 21 space RV park in my home town of Crowell, TX. I read the forum rules and know I can't post to promote it since I'm related to them. But could you folks give me some input on how and where to best to promote it? I'm trying to help Mom and Dad out but don't know much about the RV community and the way folks there look for things like this.

I've already set up a simple web site but where does it need to be posted/linked/promoted? (pics are coming soon) They have looked into joining, and advertising with, Good Sam, Trailer Life, the Texas RV association, and a couple of others. Unfortunately they are on a shoestring budget so even a few hundred dollars for an ad that won't run until next January is cost prohibitive. They've also talked to many of the RV dealers within a few hours drive of Crowell and will probably end up sending some flyers out. But what else? Are there other places that are better bang for the buck, promotion wise?

Thanks in advance!
Brad

I suggest that he get on the Chamber of Commerce list in your town. Also try your state's campground associations. Use the internet as much as possible. Set up the website. Billboards on the main freeways and roads are great.

Do advertise with TL, Woodalls, etc. It is worth it. Many folks use the internet for locating campgrounds.

From the map, I see it is not on any really main roads. Is it a destination park or just overnight?

There are some campground review sites that allow the owners to post. Also, why don't they become members of Good Sam, Passport America and clubs like that.

Highly recommend Passport America. In my travels, I use Passport America campgrounds. Good luck.

I usually start my RVPark search with RVParkreviews.com and Google. "I Feel Lucky", Google went right to RVBuddy website posted on 3/27/08. But RVPreviews gives you the ability to link directly to your own website which gives more valuable information.

We are full-timers, so are always looking for campgrounds - all over the country.

We check Trailer Life, RVparkreviews.com, and Woodalls.

Make sure that Good Sam and Woodall Campground Dirctories are aware of your existance, so they can inspect and list in the directories. Passport America seems to attract customers, but it does come at a cost to the park owner in terms of reduced revenue. Why not partner with the RV dealers close by and offer their new customer some free camping? You get geat avertising free and introduce a new RVer to the campground. It would be great if you could get some seasonals there as they provide a steady income stream. Since you are not on a major highly traveled highway, attracting campers who could reach your campground on Friday night and camp the weekend will be a big plus. Do they live on a farm or ranch? Maybe they could provide hayrides, petting zoo, visit to a working farm or ranch, evening campfire and entertainment program. Perhaps the local high school has talented kids to do storytelling, singing, you get the idea. You need something to attract campers as a weekend or more destination. Also, whats the relationship with the steakhouse? Perhaps some partnership there as well. Spend two nights at the RV park, get one night free with a meal at the steakhouse. There is one thing for sure, if you just wait for the RV's to show up, it will be a quiet campground! Get out there and market it, and let the RVer's know it is there, and give them a reason to camp there.

Ask the campers that enjoy it to post reviews on as many review sites as possible as most of us use those sites to investigate potential spots.
