Been oddly curious what those old fatty rears you used to see on Ford 1-ton camper specials back in the 70s were.
Also, were they 8 bolt or 10 bolt?
Just pondering some odd ideas, and one was getting a set of old fatty rear rims for camper running when I'm going extra heavy to help spread the load.
EDIT: Removed misconception about Split rims

I had those on the back of a 74 F350 supercab and camper. I cant remember the size for sure, but I "think" they were 12" wide tires on 15" rims and they were 8 bolt. I do remember the front had 9" and I was always nervous that if I had a flat, since I was not carrying 2 spares that I would not have the right size. It was 16 years ago though so take my memory for what it's worth! (not much!)
Sorry I couldn't be more specific. I will talk to some of my old Ford buddies and see if I can get better info.

15" would be odd for a one-ton tire, you'd think it'd be a 16"..... So long as I can get a similar heighted tire on them, I could swap to the regular spare if there was a problems.
The idea is that I'd only use these on trips where I was gonna have alot of load (Like the Mega Haul) and would want a bigger weight margin. I was 3 lbs away from max tire load on the california adventure, so a little bigger margin would be nice. That and the floation those would give on the beach would be good too.

I believe you may be talking about the 12.00 X 16.5 wheels. I ran these on my 1969 F-250 with my 11 ft. Camp 4 camper. I still have the wheels and they were not split rims and used eight bolts. My standard front wheels were 7.50 x 16 split rims. Always had a problem finding people to mount a tire. Not everyone had the cage to contain the rim when airing up.
Hope this answers your question.

Yup, the secret would be getting the tire height right so that they'd be the same as a 235/85/R16.
That, and finding a set of them.
Here's a better question, what is a split rim? I always assumed it meant the inner bit where the wheel bolted to the axle was a seperate piece of steel that was welded to the outer rim, am I wrong?

Back in the good ol days, we at times ran 10:00x15" even 12:00x15".
Dick Cepek use to handle all these sizes. Say 12:00x16" x 35" tall, is a big tire. In fact I still have a set on a 1965 ford 1/2t.

JoeChiOhki, a split rim wheel has a separate metal ring that mounts on the outside of the tire but against the wheel. It essentially holds the tire on the wheel. This was one of the worst ideas Ford ever had since if not properly mounted the ring could fly off while inflating the tire and injure or kill the person doing the inflating. Any tire store worth its salt had a cage that fitted around the tire to contain the ring if it came off.

Split rims are actually two piece wheels. A tire is place on the main portian of the wheel and a spring steel ring is spread over the edge of that wheel to hold the tire in place. That steel ring could become a lethal projectile during mount/dismount operations.
maybe an old tire man can give a better description.
