I too have been considering how to do this. I was thinking of using locking hitch receiver pins (smaller ones). I have seen both larger and smaller ones at Walmart. However, I don't know if even the smaller ones would be thin enough.
Of course, it would be best to find a set that has all of the pins keyed alike.

Please post up if you have any other ideas.

I would go to a locksmith and try to find a master lock that worked so that it could be keyed same as some other lock I have. I don't need one more key on the ring.

I got some stainless steel cotter pins at Home Depot, put them in the little holes at the end of the pins securing the hitch to the bed, and bent the ends of the cotter pins into an approximation of pretzels. It took some effort, I'll tell ya! And a bad guy would have a real problem getting them out, I have to use vice grips...so at least it will discourage all but a determined thief! It's the best I could come up with, and I have a Peragon Folding bed cover which protects the hitch too.

HERE You'd just need one or two....

hi fordsooperdootydieselsmoker,
I use those hitch pins for the base to the rails.
I e-mailed Pullrite about it . Lets see what They say / Suggest.
I'm just lookimg for a nice clean look that's effective security.
But may have to settle for less for now.

when i'm towing i use a padlock in the handle slot of the hitch head to prevent someone from disengaging the hitch pin. I also use this same setup when the trailer is parked. I remove the hitch head from the frame in the truck and re-engage it on the parked trailer then put a padlock in the handle slot. Now, the hitch head is out of my truck & locked to the trailer so less chance of someone stealing the hitch head or trailer...i hope

Try LifeLong locks ( http://lifelonglocks.com/ ). I haven't tried or even looked at Lifelong site. You could E-mail them, they may be willing to help or come up with something.

I drilled The hole larger in one pin in the head holddown, a pin in the main part and a pin in one of the four base pins. Then put a small padlock (in place of the clip pin) in each which are all keyed alike. Plus my hitch is covered with a tonneau cover when not in use or locked in my garage. Ron Day

I know here at work we have master locks throughout our company, the shop guys said that you can order the locks as may as you need right from master all keyed the same, or differant keys per lock with a master to unlock all the locks ordered.

When someone comes up with the locks that fit this hitch,
post it here, maybe some pics too - the hubby is wanting
to do the same thing to ours.

Thanks, JO
