All of the above. I took my twin girls canoe camping when they were about 8-9 mos old. We were moving camp sites anyway, so it wasn't much stress for them as they were bundled by their mom and couldn't exactly get cold even if they wanted to. They just snuggled with us on the cots in our sleeping bags.

We tented camped when my DD was in her baby years. We took her portable play pen. She slept in her warmest PJ's and used flannel blankets. We also had a ceramic heater. We camped May 24 weekend and Thanksgiving so I always went prepared. For that time of the year we even brought her winter snowsuit for cold night sleeping. It was her private sleeping bag. She liked to kick blankets off. If I was worried about her then she slept beside me on the air mattress. I also had on hand a water bottle, my DH would fill it up at bed time and we would tuck it in with her. I always did and still do keep mittens and hat on hand for that time of year. Extra blankets, like I said we use flannel as they are always warmer. Even in the PUP you still feel the cold without a heater or furnace. Goodluck and have fun.

The outdoors is a wonderful place to be....

I'm curious, you took infants in a canoe? Did you have life vests for them?

We are dying to go canoeing, but are afraid to take our 2yr old and 4yr old with us.

Thanks everyone for all the great information, I didn't think about a lot of the things mentioned here. I was going to buy a tent heater but seems like the ceramic heater works better and safer. Which is great b/c I have 2 already! I was a bit nervous and was afraid that it was going to be more of a headache. Now I am looking forward to a great trip.
