Have a new Fun Finder Travel Trailer, and did our first voyage this past weekend. Manuels leave a lot to be desired on how things work. I thought I had filled the water tank but actually had just hooked up to water, the reserve tank is located in another spot on the trailer, discoved this at break down time. This tank does not have a screw hose connector just an open hole to pour water in. I will assume it also was winterized and flush it out after the first fill but should I do anything else?

Its called a gravity fill thats the way a lot or RVs are. I wouldnt assume anything about the unit just check it out.

Every manufacturer warns that the Fresh Water Holding Tank and the rest of the fresh water SYSTEM should be sanitized before the first use. They almost always contain warnings about dire consequences and death but I'm sure that this language comes from their legal department but I'd advise you to read your instructions for sanitizing the tank before using it again. It should also be done a couple of additional times during each camping season. Good luck / skip

There's every risk of serious things happen in using water from an RV system that hasn't been properly flushed and cleaned first. The chemicals used in construction, in fabarication of the tanks, in joinery and a lot of debris that may be in the tank. Put your garden hose in that second opening you found and run it full, drain, then run it full again with a good shot of bleach added. Let it sit for a while, drain, then and only then might you be safe to use that water for other than showers and flushing. To clean out the entire fresh water system, use the bleach solution from the fresh water tank. Pump it through the cold and hot water systems with all faucets open until you don't smell bleach any more. Once should be enough. Each season, that is.

One other thing I saw in the original posting-if the fresh water tank is properly drained, there is no point in winterizing it.

You will have to sanitize the freshwater tank. When filling, stick the hose in and let it run.

When sanitizing - how much water do I have to use? Could I fill the tank like 1/3 full? We have 100 gallon capacity and am cringing of wasting that much water (even though I know its probably necessary) in times of drought.

Also...is there any need to use the water sanitizing solutions like they sell at walmart?

Last question...how long can I leave water sitting in the tank? Do I need to empty it after each trip? At the most it will be 4 weeks between trips.
