Bottom line if you go any where for vacation this summer it is going to cost more.I do feel for the ones trying to make a living and were all ready only getting by.

We just made our longest trip for this year 1800 miles. Still going to go just drive slower and stay longer when we do go. Every thing has gone up so if you stay home or go it still cost more if you live in North America. So why stay home and get screwed when you can go camping. The days we camp we spend less money than when at home as we stay in state and federal camp grounds with a golden age pass 7 to 15 dollars a day. The electric bill go's down at home five dollars or more when we are gone so that makes up part of it.
Next trip 660 miles 220 dollars at 4.00 a gallon 66.34 for 7 days in a very nice state park so 286.34 is 40.91 a day can`t have fun for much less than that in this day and time. I also find people that camp rock. I have not been to a camp ground yet that we did not meet nice people and have a good time. I can`t say that about trips in hotels and time shares in the past.

I have to agree with what you say but you better leave really quick on that next trip! Regular is $4.15 here. I use diesel, today it's $4.90

Happy Camping!

We have planned a four month cross country trip for over a year now and we are still going. We will compensate some by staying in COE parks, military campgrounds and not eating out as much. We also have done a comparison if gas costs different amounts and will budget accordingly. After this trip, we will still travel but probably stay longer in each place.

Each family has their own limits and we shouldn't judge what someone else decides to do.

Enyoy your travels!

It's Memorial Day weekend and this campground is only 80% full. As long as we have been camping this was sold out months ahead of time and most often you had to made reservations the year before. We in southern Maine.
The gas station at the entrance to the campground just raised his price for diesel 5 cents yesterday and another 5 cents this morning.
Well at least reservations will be easier to get this summer. Have a great weekend everyone, summer is here yahoo.

Well, your thread really hit home this weekend as we are presently in Greenville, S.C. to attend my wife's sister's wedding. Originally we planned on coming down to S.C. in our class A motor home, but I did the math and told my wife we could do this weekend trip for 1/2 the cost if we drive down in our Saturn Vue and pay for two nights at the Quality Inn. So we went with plan B and drove the Vue to S.C. instead of the motor home. However, our daughter is getting married in October, but it will be less expensive to take the motor home out to Scottsdale, Az as we will be there for six weeks and although it will cost more for gas to get there and back, will save a ton on lodging for 45 days and instead of eating all of our meals out, most all our meals for that six week period will be in the motor home. So it has had an impact on our traveling plans both near term as well as long term. Bagman.

Ok guys, this is an interesting thread. But if you think gas is going up above 5 bucks and I think it will but not for long and it will not take much to get it higher if there is an interuption like a hurricane either. Now let me say it this way. If oil goes up to 200 buck a barrel flying to these places will be out too. The airlines will shut down a bunch of planes. American just toolk 12 percent of their planes off line due to fuel inefficiencies. They will do more as then raise the price. Think of it 3 grand for a ticket cross country. How many will pay that for a weekend. Everything is going to go up it is just that we are feeling the pain faster as are the trucking companies Fed ex UPS and the airlines.

Another part of this issue even though we still continue to go do we spend as much once to our destination. What impact does this have on the local economy? We used to eat out a couple of times when on vac and buy souvineers, wine when in good wine country. We will continue to go but will find ways to cut costs where ever possible.

Let's RE-DO these calculations with $15 a gallon and see who's in panic mode.
This (rising fuel) will not end until the majority of people can no longer afford it. I'd say that the majority of people on this site couldn't handle $15 a gallon. If that is the amount you can't handle, then that is where the price is going to go.

We changed from a Yellowstone trip (4300 miles round trip) to a 1500 mile trip...we went to the Smokies...out to Gatlinburg, TN. It was great, and still got to have a mountain vacation!
