Different parts of the country have different dealer scams going. You might find that many of the dealerships in your region are trying the same trick, because if they all do it, they can usually get away with it.
Don't fall for it. Do your price shopping. Let them know that you are a serious buyer if they are serious in meeting you part way with a good price.
Also keep in mind that if the dealership's owner tries one scam on the buyers, they're likely to try more. Check and double check everything.
One very popular scam here is for the buyer and the "sales manager" (the closer) to agree on a pretty good price, then the "finance manager" prints the contract with a magically higher price and added charges. The added charges are totally bogus, and the higher price must be magic...if it was a mistake it'd be lower half the time. Check and double check everything.
I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

Please clarify, are you talking about buying a Class C ? Or are you talking about the Honda Fit, or the Toyota ? The Class C, no ernest money, just negotiate the best price out the door. If they won't give you a price, say good day and go down the street. Now for the Honda Fit or Toyota, like another poster said, it can be either you grab it now or I will sell it to someone else or give me a deposit to hold it. They are that popular in todays gasoline uncertanty and dealers can sell most all of them in stock at their price. Prius also.
By the way, the Honda Fit is not approved to tow 4 wheels down. Don't know about the Toyota.

For this topic I'm talking about buying a Class C motor home. I'm also buying a Toyota Yaris or a Honda Fit.
The idea is to get rid of the 5th wheel (even though we love it) and the truck and get a little car to commute to work and that can be towed behind the Class C

Sorry, with the economy the way it is, I don't care what your selling, any sales person should thank their lucky stars SOMEONE is buying.
I don't care if it's a Honda, Yaris, or Prius, money is money, and a customer is a customer.
Good economy or bad economy, customers are NOT finite, but products are. You can always build another vehicle, but you can wiggle your nose and produce a serious buyer with proper credit to purchase that vehicle.
So same answer goes - they need you more than you need them - it's been that way since the cave man, and will be that way till we are all long gone.

There are a number of recent posts in the Dinghy forum that say the Fit has been certified for being towed 4-down.
