I have 2 12 volt deep cycle batteries in parallel. They are matched and each are 115 amp hour batteries. I am looking for a cut off switch that I can turn off power to the camper and charge them separately and not have any power bleed over to the camper. Does anyone have a recommendation on what kind of battery cut off switch I should use? I bought one, but it says it is limited to 100 amps for 12 volts systems. Any help is appreciated!

I would think 100 amps might be adequate. How many amps do you think you will be drawing?

Most cut off switches are to take the batteries off line (out of the charging circuit) when the camper is plugged in for extended periods as most common converter/chargers tend to over charge the batteries over time. Let your on board unit charge the batteries and then use the disconnect.

I have been using a Harbor Freight battery cut off switch (about $5.00) with the same type battery arrangement for about a year. No problems. The switch is spliced into the main 12 volt supply line between the positive post in the battery box and the 12 volt distribution panel. Hope this helps...

I use the Perko battery switch. You can set it to battery 1, 2 or both and of course off. It's a bit large by works very well.

The 100 amp limite refers to the current passed NOT to the capacity of the battery

You have 230 amp hours of battery, You should not exceed 70 amps either charging or draw (Save for brief periods of draw) on those.

Your 100 amp switch will have no problems at all with that current.

Question: How much did you pay for those?

How much would a pair of US-220 Golf Cart batteries from Costco Cost?

(The US-220 would be 232 amp hours, basically.. The same)

Go to Walmart, buy a Perko battery switch as already mentioned. ~$25, rated at 350 Amps, IIRC. You'll find it in the boating section. Could go to a marine or RV supply store, and pay more for the same product.

I've been using these for years. Far better than a cheap blade type switch.

I used the same switch but installed it in the negative cable between the negative battery post and the grounding on the frame, (only because it was more convenient).

I have a Guest Switch on my Toy Hauler and it takes the batter out of the circuit so the converter will not charge the battery if plugged in.

Looks like this
