I don't know....quality doesn't sell and Newmar as well as Tiffin are smaller operations, if the downturn goes deeper these two may not ride it out....

Rexhall is still around right? I would think they would have to be on the Watch list.

Bagman:

Although your comments about crossovers are correct I don't know if the industry can respond quick enough. In the past 2 years there have been lots of comments about overloaded 40 ft. MH's. The industry response is to build 42 and 43 foot tag models. I asked Tiffin why the 40 footers are overloaded and they replied it is because buyers want: full tile floors, solid wood cabinets, washer dryers and more. Of course every one wants 4 slides!! Even entry level units from Tiffin have all these features. I really don't think we will see those changes any time soon. As for who will be next: I suspect it could be CC. Bob Lee had a small part in the restructuring of Alpine and I think he too is controlled by venture capitalists. Most of the mfr's. do not have enough cash to start any R & D on a new type of unit. Heck most do not even have an R &D department!! I would watch Newmar very closely. Their quality is not legendary any more.

I don't know where this talk about Newmar's quality is coming from. Our coach is extremely well made, has had very few defects and what little has gone wrong was quickly made right by Newmar. We looked at virtually every manufacturer closely and especially Newmar, Tiffin and Monaco and found the Newmar to be the best with Tiffin and Monaco coming in very close to second.

We didn't look at the $750k plus high end units of other manufacturers, that was way out of our budget.

My next two guesses are CT Coachworks (home of the infamous Flounder/Siena)--another Crean derivative-- and Rexhall. Both west coast and both small companies. And both with very weak distribution. And I hoped Rexhall would catch on....I really don't want to see them go under....but West Coast fuel prices are higher than some East Coast states...

So far we have lost four MH builders and unfortunately I don't think this recession has run its course. Some have asked who is next, I think the proper question may be who will be the suriviors.

What recession? The first quarter grew at 0.6%.

I agree. We've bought new Newmars in '00, '03, and '08. The '08 is is nicest so far - as it should be. Newmar may not offer the glitz of some others, but their quality needs no excuses.

There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.

EXACTLY! The recession the press is damned we'll have before the election. Nothing else to talk about, so lets talk down the economy. Slow down, yes. Recession, not yet. But give it time, the press will have us talked into one soon.
