My maiden post...(retitled due to low view count)...Just bought a '94 Fleetwood Elkhorn ($4,000). I don't think ANYTHING that runs on propane has EVER been used! The stove is spotless and the range still has the sticker on it, the right propane tank still has cardboard around it, I plan to mess with everything!! I really can't wait to try that propane genny. I'm owner #3. #2 had it and only used it 1 season never bothering to "mess with anything", he bought it from the daughter of owner #1 who was an older man who passed away. This thing looks to be in great condition except for a few minor details. The propane tanks still have the old style fittings. I did notice the caulk getting tired and have started resealing today. I'm carriying it with a 1997 F-250 4X4 Supercab Diesel (Yeah I know, she's maxed).

First concern. TOWING. It will be limited to light towing mostly our 16' Hobie Cat which with the trailer might weigh in at a whopping 500lbs. We also will be towing our fiberlass dune buggy on a 6' X 10' trailer which is a little heavier. The heaviest weight will be 3 Harley Davidsons that we will be towing to Johnstown Bike Week. My question is what do I do about the 4 foot (roughly) I see from the reece receiver at the truck to the end of the camper? There is what looks like a place under the camper that would fit a step bumper receiver. I see those "Titans" and other class 5 hitches but they are REALLY pricey especially after buying their extension. I also see those 2" by 48" "tubes". I'm thinking using one of those from the truck receiver up through a step bumper receiver mounted to the camper bumper. I KNOW this would work for the Hobie, probably be ok for the Dune Buggy, but 2 or 3 large bikes is a bit of a concern. Any thoughts?

Good luck on the gen, after sitting for so long, the rings might be dried out. I heh-hawd around with a towing setup, and findly bit the bullet and bought the setup from tork-lift with the 48" extention. Heavy duty is putting it mildly, but I know it's safe to tow anything I'll ever tow. With the long extention, you'll need a lot of upgrading,I didn't see any advantage to having one made and hoping it'd work.Saw an ad here for $750.00 delivered fron Florida (which was the cheapest yet) and installed myself with help (heavy unit)

This is what i did to save weight. I made the tongue 24'' longer on my lil trailer. [ $ 150.00 at a weld shop ] i hook it directly to the factory hitch on my truck. i saved the weight of a super hitch . I only tow an enclosed fiberglass snowmobile trailer [ dry = 1000# ] I carry all my goodies[400#] in the trailer rather than my camper. i also tow with a 2500HD . Putting 3 Hogs on a trailer will be pushing it . I had to tow this trailer with two sleds [ 1200# plus 1000# dry wt. ] in an emergency situation . I didnt like the way it was handling . i would not do that again . I only carry light stuff. The EQ. i added to my truck... air bags, rear sway bar and rancho 9000's shocks . with my camper alone im over my GVWR but a little under my GAWR . If you made the tongue longer on all your trailers i think it would be cheaper than buying a super hitch . I think it will make a safer tow set up than running a long extention off your truck.

Due to the cost, I went with a home built extension. Unless you're into welding yourself, it's not the cheaper route. I've got plans for what I did and I'll give them away if anyone wants it.

#1 - don't tie into the camper. The camper simply can't take it, and the back of the camper will start to come apart.

#2 - How much does the trailer weigh loaded? That's the big determining factor of whether you go with the Superhitch or the Tow Beast. If you do go with the Tow Beast, several members have added chains for side to side sway.

The genny started right up. The oil was fresh honey colored, I truley beleive this was the first time the genny has ran. She also generated electric carriying house lights and Air Conditioner!!!!

Looks like I have some freeze damage though. both fresh water hoses at galley sink are split up high. Water came from behind toilet I think it come from inside the toilet. Do these toilets snap apart/together as they appear to?

Have decided to go class V on the hitch...deciding on which one to go with now. Heck I ordered air bags this morning, might as well go for it 100%.

You could get by with a 13 or 18" extension and still tow about 4000 lbs.hopefully you have trailer brakes for the heavy load. Enjoy

Lots of different ways just make sure you do it right and safely. Here is a link This is the way I did it.

There are 5 pages on this thread and if you do some searches for hitches you will be overwhelmed.

I like www.torklift.com superhitch. Just installed it, so I have yet to tow with it.
