Don't want to get too graphic here, but my Freshette Director is my must-have accessory when hiking and camping. I also love my headlamp. The luxury I allow myself--even when backpacking--is my Trekker Lounge, which attaches to my Thermarest pad so I can sit or recline for reading.
I love my gear, and I have a lot of it.
Husband: Derek
Dog: Bucky
RV: 2000 Aerolite 19RB TT
TV: 1996 Chevrolet Blazer 6 cyl. 4WD
This car used to be our toad, now is our TV!
Backpacking: It's been a number of years since I've done it (debilitating motorcycle crash. New child. New travel trailer, well both were new at one time). But, I'm resolved to get back in to it this summer. Hopefully backpacking will be as enjoyable as I used to find it.
Necessary? Wool and/or synthetic clothes.
Luxury? iPod. But, before the advent of mp3 players I used to dring my Walkman (1980's) and Diskman (1990's).
Car camping: I'm usually solo on tent camping trips as the wife is too spoiled with our travel trailer. Although, youngest DD and I have been out tent camping together and we've had a blast. But, even at 4 Y.O. she too prefers the trailer. Sheesh...
Regardless, tent or trailer, I bring it all. Generator. Elec heater and/or fan. DVD Player. XL Cot. Two Pillows. Etc.

Smart wool socks and liners, Thermarest pad, good sleeping bag for all climates. I have two I really like: my slumberjack zero degree mummy and a magellan (Academy Sports) 30 degree mummy bag. Also use a Walmart Ozark Trail fleece bag that can be used down to 55 and as a liner for other bags.
On the luxury side I got a Coleman Catalytic Propane heater that I have now used a couple of times. It really helps in knocking the chill down before bedtime and in the morning. Do not run it all night for safety reason. When I use the larger of my tents and can load and unload pretty close to the car I take the cot, which sleeps very good but does creak when I turn over.
Backpacking, I love my Kelty external frame backpack, Coleman Exponent tent and Sportsmans guide hiking poles.

My wife likes camping in style but, won't break down and sign off on a trailer so, we "tent" camp with all the amenities of a trailer. Coleman's portable hotwater heater, Mr heater buddy and porta-potty.

Sounds like us. We have a cabin tent, one of those collapsing kitchens, coleman 2 burner stove, grille, coleman cat heater, cabela's cots, 2 propane lanterns and assorted little stuff.
Tomorrow I'm picking up one of those coleman hot water on demand units. Seriouslly thinking about the porta-potty since wifey is pregnant again this year and we have a 4yr old as well, and those shower/bathroom facilities are far away on cool nights.....
Gee I see a pattern here. I don't have the hot water heater but I do have a lot of the gear I see here. No potti yet but I see it in the near future. Wife would like it and would be good fo young grandson. I'll just have to make room on my camp trailer for it.
