Here in the west, our state parks typically do have both electric and water hookups. But our experience in the midwest, where you live, is that only electric is offered at the site. As many have already posted, there is usually water available in the park.
We only carry enough water to flush the toilet and use the sinks in between stops.
Congratulations on your new fiver and welcome to the forum! Many happy trails!

Here in Louisiana the state parks have electricty and water at all sites. There is a centrally located dump station.

Welcome to the RV world, Waterwolf. Just like you never say NEVER, always doesn't always work always either. For every rule I've seen an exception at least once, and that includes when the guy at the front gate was wrong. When I first started, I tried all sorts of places and things, boondocking thru resorts, and everything in between. In the beginning we left home full serviced with everything I "MIGHT" need for my stay and since then have peeled it back to what we do and how we do it. In that way I might have a few things extra I didn't use, but wouldn't be without. I'm sort of a belt and suspenders guy.
Do what seems right for you, and roll with it if it doesn't work out. Always a new day tomorrow.
Have fun and safe travels,
John

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new fifth wheel. The best way to educate yourself is a combination of getting out there and getting the experience and using something like RV Education 101 Videos.

I almost always fill my water tank most of the time we don't even have electric at the places we go to. the ones that do have electric do not have water with them. Sometimes we get lucky and they have both, it is better safe than sorry.

We mostly boondock so we usually leave home with full tanks unless of course our final destination is a long way off then we will only carry enough water to use the facilities and find somewhere to fill up at our last fuel stop. I have never had anyone say no to me filling my fresh tank with water I always ask first.
Some say thier trailer handles better with water in it

Hi waterwolfe and welcome to the good life!
All of the previous posts are good advice and should be of good use. Just to be on the safe side, carry as much water as you can handle. Also, bring with you a 5 gallon water container (Wally-World about $6) so you can go somewhere and get water to carry to your campsite if needed. Nothing worse than being stuck with empty water tanks after setting up.

I carry collapsible water jugs and 175 feet of water hose. I used to carry 100 feet, but I came up short on the last trip. The jugs worked, but it was very annoying.
