Just looking for opinion's, found a nice clean 1997 Ford f 250 4x4 crew cab, Has the 460 v8 auto trans. We have a 30ft trailcruiser now would like to go to a 5'er down the road. Is this a good truck for pulling? If you have this what do you pull and how do you like it? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Dennis 1.
Dennis that should pull that little trailer real easy, that 460 is a workhourse and gas is much cheaper than desil.

Thats a pretty good size engine, but will imagine that it will require a fair amount of fuel . If the price was right, you could try it and when you decide on the 5ver, make the change then.
That TV will handle most trailers, I had a 97, 460v/8. auto. - pulled a 35' with slide outs, and about anything else I wanted too. That engine taken care of will do the job - it is a real work horse. BUT I
have to tell you it truly enjoys gasoline!!!

Of course it does, it's a Ford. I can hear mine sipping gas at night when it's just sitting there.

I don't carry because I have to, I carry because I get to. I like new things-

Horsepower: 210 hp
Torque: 325 ft-lbs

Maximum Payload 3890 lbs
Maximum Towing Capacity: 10000 lbs
Yeah, for the '351ci' engine of that time...
I wouldn't want to tow a #10,000 trailer with it, but I'm sure you could move that kind of load around a farm and be just fine....
The 460 is around 7.5 liters or something like that..... It'll have a bunch more torque and a bit more hp, but it'll suck gas like a baby does a bottle!
If you can pay cash for it and it's not much over $5000 then you'll be okay... It'll get around 6 mpg with that load, so figure that into your equation as well..
That's a good truck, and a good engine. Not an economical engine by any stretch of the imagination, but a strong one that will get the job done. If it has 4.10 gears, it will pull great. I wouldn't plan on using it for daily driving, the gas $$ will kill your budget. Get a small car or mini pickup for that. Used only for what it does best, the big Ford is a good choice. If it has low miles and has been taken care of and the price is right, you won't go wrong with that truck for most pulling/hauling needs. If you're thinking about a heavy fifth wheel trailer in the future though, I would pass up on the 3/4-ton and gas engine and get a dually with a diesel instead.
My truck in signature below has been a great truck and can do alot, but the price of gas and the single rear wheels do limit what it can do. It used to haul a camper and pull the flatbed trailer out to the desert for weekend fun. It pulls and hauls good with all the mods I've done to it (heavy duty springs, tires, wheels, shocks, sway bar bushings, 4.56 gears, etc). Now I can't afford that kinda fun anymore so the truck is used for work only, hauling a heavy welding utility body and when the flatbed is hooked up, it's hauling stuff for work instead of play. Gas is just too expensive now days.
I had a 1995 F250 towing a conventional. In asking other drivers what their experience was with the 460. The answer was very consistant; 8.5 mpg towing,10 City driving,12 on the higheway.
