We're ascending up to alaska from oregon. interested in taking a flight plane tour (not sure where we should go to, but we heard that it's a 'must do'). also, want to charter a boat to fish-not sure where again...if you've had a great experience please tell us where you went and which charter you used.
also, we have kayaks and want to get them in the water...any great spots we need to paddle in???
thanks

In the Summer of 2007, we did a halibut trip out of Ninilchik on the Kenia Pennisula with Afishunter--I would go with them again and again and again! Also short ride out to the halibut--about 15-20 miles into the Cook Inlet. Oh yes--we all limited out--8 fisherman--16 fish--biggest 71 lbs.--great eating size.
For silver salmon--we took a charter out of Seward in late August--3 fisherman--got out limit. I can't remember the charter name but I would not hesitate to go with other charters out of Seward for silvers. Check on when the Silvers will be running.
For Northern Pike, we took an overnight flight to the west of Fairbanks that included the flight, boat, motor and cabin for $180/person. The charter operator is located next door to the Chena Marina RV Park--that is on the lake where the float planes land and takeoff.
For a general flight, we flew on the Warbelow's mail flight from Fairbanks via Bettles to Anatuvik Pass. This is a flight thru the Brooks Range and the Gates of the Artic National Park. Great flight and lots of sights. Departed from Fairbanks International Airport on a twin engine Navajo.
Another great trip is on the kayak delivery boat out of Seward into the Kenai Fjords National Park--about a 8-10 hour trip but you get up real close to the animals and the beach! They only take a few sightseers because they are primarily in the kayak drop and pick-up business.
So have a blast!
Flightseeing I would do in Denali or Lake Clark; Fly out for fishing is very much overblown as some of the best fishing doesn't require an airplane - sometimes just a jet boat; You can kayak just about anywhere there's water.

We had a great flightseeing trip out of Haines over Glacier Bay. Highly recommend it.
As for kayaking, B.C. is a paradise. There are so many places it could stretch your trip out for years!! Get some detailed maps and look carefully in the Milepost.
I've not done much kayaking, so can't comment there, but would otherwise concur with TimandSusan's post.
Strongly recommend (depending on timing and if you're going there anyway) going out of Seward for silvers and Ninilchik for halibut. Did both several times back in the day with an 18' Zodiac....going with a charter is much more convenient.
If timing and location dictates otherwise, there a quite a few people who provide charter services out of Talkeetna area. There is one that is very popular, and they offer good service, but they do carry a lot of people, so it ma....ay get a bit crowded.
Recommend Denali (the mountain, not so much the park) for flightseeing...can be done from Anchorage or Talkeetna (possibly squarebanks too, although I never did that). Strongly recommend flightseeing around the Wrangell-St. Elias area if you are going to Chitina/McCarthy. Personal experience can recommend Wrangell Mountain Air.
Again, depending on time of year, there are any # of operators on Lake Hood that will fly you to various rivers in the Mat-Su area for fishing in King or Silver season. There is one outfit I'd stay away from and a couple I can recommend..PM if you'd like.

If the weather cooperates I'd suggest the Denali flight tour. Go in one of the nostalgic old Beavers rather than one of the Navajos and do the whole shebang with the glacier landing. I spent a week up there and hadn't even caught a glimpse of the mountain but then on the last day it was crystal clear and I got to go.
