Did anyone happen to catch the program "Carrier" on PBS.
If not you are missing a very interesting program.
PBS film crew spent 6 months with the Carrier Nimitze crew and filmed there life aboard ship. You got to hear there thought's and feeling's on what was going on good and bad.

No, didn't see one, but walking thru WWII era submarine parked in San Fransisco I couldn't imagine how 24 people could live for months in torpedo room size of my motorhome.

Human beings are supremely adaptable Kaj.

Please note that those months were months without the benefit of showering or clean clothes on a regular basis, with commotion all around you while you slept, and that everyone in the room was chronically tired and grumpy. Everyone smelled like diesel fuel, and ozone from the battery, if you were lucky.

Took special men to do that.

I loved it when the shooter retired, and they "launched" his boots.

Sure, this is your first DWI spot check.

I saw it all, I liked "hour 7" doing recoveries at night and in heavy seas. I thought it weird that some crew were acting like heavy seas where rare. I was on that boat 93-95 and it wasnt unusual for the deck to be pitching like that.

Been recording that series. Watched the first 2 hours, however. Can't wait to see the rest. DD was in the Navy for 9 years, and went out on 2 carriers (the Washington and the Lincoln, based on the east coast even tho she was stationed on Whidbey Isl), for 2 different deployments. I think she was out on the Stennis off shore for 4-6 weeks one time. So we are getting to see just what she went thru and can now understand her complaints.

She's now out and happy about that.

May we all have safe travels.

Episode #7 was absolutley amazing. Can't imagine trying to land on a football field that is moving up and down. The last episode, when the jets landing at their home base, was here in Lemoore, Ca. The next time I'm standing in line next to one of those guys at the store, I'll have renewed respect for them. Thanks to all of you who have served. Finally, some quality television.
