I am currently placing a new box on my trailer that has screws to hold the top down. It is a pretty sturdy box (part #120175) from this site:
http://www.solarseller.com/battery_boxes_by_quick_cable.htm
I wanted something that would hold both and the cost is pretty good. I'll let you know how the install goes next week.
I know you asked Chuck but I thought I'd chime in with this one.

Auto, Thanks for chiming in. I was looking at those as well. I like them from what I can see, but you can get two singles for $44? It would be real nice to have one box and no straps! Please let me know how they look, and what you think of the quality. Have you seen one, or just from online pic? I need to get going fairly quickly on this mod, gotta have it done before our trip. If you could PM me I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks much, Dave

Here is another vendor... 2 (GC2) boxes are cheaper than one dual box.

Thanks much, Dave Yes, two singles are cheaper. I have the box and it's being installed next week. The box is much thicker plastic than the cheap single boxes, it's about 1/4" thick and the base mounting points are much thicker. It has two wing nuts on the top corners that will have no problem keeping the top on. There is no need for the strap that is necessary on the cheaper boxes. I'll take some pictures after it is installed. I was originally going to install it myself but ran into too much work with my business so I am having the dealership install it. I asked them to move the tanks back a few inches (still plenty space from trailer) to allow the box to fit with the cable openings in the back. A couple of single boxes might be easier to install but I prefer the double.

Here's what Used. I would think 2 6 volts would fit. I plan to replace the current 12 volt batts when they give out.

I got it at Lowes for about $33. Drilled air circulation holes around the top, bolted it to the plate, installed a switch and it has those handy dandy cup holders. It has room for stabilizer pads, tie down bungies and a few other items.

Here's the pictures of the new box. I bought two golf cart batteries from Sam's club. Originally I wanted the Trojans but these were $66 each and spec'd at 220AH. Besides I could not find a Trojan dealership anywhere in my area. I like the flip open caps on them.

Old box, shows thickness.

You can see closeups in webshots, link in my sig.
