Hey guys,

We are planning a trip to east tennessee and are a little overwhelmed by the selection of rv parks in the area. Does anyone know of a campground that is clean and close to pidgeon forge? I know there use to be two on the far side of Pidgeon Forge along the river just before you actually start heading to Gatlingburg. My wife would probably enjoy staying a little closer to the shops and stores a little more than actually staying in the national park. Thanks.

Lee,

I can't say it's our favorite 'cause it's our "onliest." In July 1999, we enjoyed our stay at Crazy Horse Campground & RV Resort which is between Gatlinburg and Pidgeon Forge. The campground is located on US-321S about 15 miles west of its intersection with I-40 (exit 440). It was clean and the staff was friendly. The cost then was $31 for full hook-ups and cable. We were there for two nights.

On your side of Piegon Forge, We like River Plantation . it has 40' by 60' sites and Its before most of the traffic. It gives good sam discounts and is in the 26.00 range. Not as much shade but you don't have to worry about ohead limbs as much.

Our favorite is the Fort Wear campground at Pigeon Forge. The sites are large and it is on a small river. Nice ducks for our cat to watch.

Last year I stayed at the CrazyHorse Campground. It is very nice and alot of woods. Little streams run thru the campground. They even have a pond that you can cath fish in. Any setup will catch the fish. The rule is you catch them and you eat them. Also very close to the different attractions in the area. Highly recommend them

I recommend heartily "Riveredge C/G" right on 321 and 441 before you leave the city limits of Pigeon Forge. It is well staffed, friendly, cleanest restrooms, full hookups, and trolley service, if you wish not to drive around in the traffic. Restaurants are with in walking distance as are many of the shops.

Lee,
If you want close to the action, pick a campground in Pigeon Forge. All the campgrounds listed in Gatlinburg are actually a few miles away from the downtown area.

HI,

My wife and I stayed at the Pigeon Forge KOA a couple of summers ago. Found it to be very convenient. The campground backs up to a town park. At the other side of the park is a very good restraunt and also the central terminal for the Trolley bus company. For a very small fee, it will take you anywhere in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. It even has a direct line to Dollywood. If you go to Dollywood, be prepared to pay dearly for the food. The rides are included in the entrance fee. Also, most of the rides are water rides, so plan to get wet! There are many great shows. it will take you two days if youwant to see most of the shows. The campground had a discounted two day pass for the park.
Another nice entertaining meal was the Dixie Stampede, whgich was within walking distance of the Campground.
One other word of warning, be prepared for massive amounts of traffic. There is only one main road and if youhappen to catch the area when there is some kind of event going on, the highway will be a parking lot. It took us almost three hours to get from the intersate to the campground, the day we arrived.
Best of luck and safe travels.

We like Riversedge in Pigeon Forge the best. Mostly because of location. It is right at the edge of Pigeon Forge on the way to Gatlinburg. Trolley stops right in the campground. Great bath house. We have also stayed outside of Gatliburg at Twin Creek. Very nice as well although not as convenient location but has a trolley stop there as well. For the money we like Rivers Edge best.

We just came from there this weekend. We stayed at Twin Creek RV Resort. To say this park was clean was an understatement. Beautiful place and a trolley come right to the the park entrance to take us downtown. (for a quarter each person no less) Cable TV, pool, tiny store, just perfect and Good Sam reduction if interested. I went in to the restrooms just to look. (requires a code number to access) Spotless!

Do NOT stay at Dudley Park or Parkside or whatever they are going to call it. It was the absolute worst I've ever seen. You wouldn't have believed it. I know they are working on it, but they shouldn't even rent to RV'ers at this time.
