We have a Jeep Liberty that we tow behind our Pace Arrow. We (mostly me) enjoy driving the easier Jeep trails (can't afford to tear up the toad) when we go out west Class 3 trails probably my limit but haven't tried one yet. Problem is that nobody we travel with cares much about tagging along and we learned from paddling whitewater for a couple of dozen years that adventuring without backup is not the wisest thing to do. I see a lot of RV's towing Jeeps an am wondering if there are any sort of gatherings where RV'ers get together for this particular activity. If so, how do we get in that loop? We're planning to retire and start traveling this summer and would like to include some off-roading in the schedule.

You can do the "Jeep Jamboree" thing for an organized, guided, social activity ride, or you can just show up at any popular off road area that has jeep/4WD trails and hook up with someone with a similar vehicle. Most Jeepers are friendly folks willing to show an out of towner around the trails.

It would cool to get together with the other Jeepers here. Moab would be a great place to meet up...it's awesome! We have nice trails here in CO too. If you are ever coming to Colorado or Utah, drop me a line!
I'd Rather be in Moab!

Hubby and I cruise the back trails any time we can find 'em!! And generally (having spent weeks last summer in Colorado, following easy trails) there are plenty of other off-roaders out there who could assist you in the event of a problem?? We carry cell phones; GPS and Gazetteers; and some basic emergency supplies - plenty of drinking water - and off we go!!

Don't always depend on cell phones. Within 10 miles of my house is the beginning of some good off-road trails in the old mining areas but one thing you will not have is any cell phone signal.
Many off-road vehicles use CB radios for communication.
Also on weekends there may be other off roaders but often during the weekdays you may not see any other vehicles,

I do not know anything about it, but I have a friend that is a member of a chapter of FMCA for offroaders. Should be easy to find on their website.

My MH manufacturer's owners club has an annual Jeep expedition in Colorado each Summer. Some folks in the club actually have Jeeps, by brand, or you can rent them where they go for an outrageously high per day price. Jeeps just caught on as toads, don't know exactly why.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

I am a trail guide for the Big Bear Jeep Jamboree and Borrego Springs (formerly known as Salton Sea) Jeep Jamboree. My club, Inland Empire 4 Wheelrs (sic) is also hosting the Big Bear Forest Fest on Fathers Day weekend. www.IE4W.com is thew website for more information. A large percentage of the profits go to keep trails open in the south west.

Thanks to all who posted. There is good info there that we will use as soon as retirement and travel plans are are on solid footing. A situation at work may or may not delay pulling the plug until late summer or fall and the timing of it may dictate whether we go east or west.
