Hello, My first time on this forum..
I have a 1997 Thor Dutchmen 31' travel trailer.
I had an open circuit in my thermal cut off diode, I replaced it and has another concern. Once the propane is lit it will then have flames come back through the intake right to the solenoids and almost through the exhaust.
I inspected the chamber to make sure there was not blockage or a nest of some type and all looks clear.
It is an Atwood gas/electric w/ electric ignition.Model# GC6AA-8E
Are there any known solutions or parts I can condemn? thanks in advance.

Clean the burner tube. Could have debris inside. Make sure the burner is straight into burner tube.

You mean the 2" tube that the burner goes into?? It looks clean, but I'll give it another look, thanks

ZAh yes, I've replaced that diode also. Seems water from the roof would drip down and there was a mineral build up and pow the diode went. I installed ( took a couple of minutes) roof gutter extensions and now no driping on the hot water tank.
Gutter extensions

In regard to the flames back drafting on you. I would check out the flue up to the roof. Sounds like you're not getting the air draw you need so the flames are trying to escape. Sometimes birds build nests up on the chimney cap and block the air flow.

Happy trails,

Happy trails,

there is an intake on the roof?? I thought it was drawn in around the propane nozzle just like a propane torch or a gas grill...Thanks

18vtx00:
You are correct. Bill is mixed up with refer. Air enters from burner tube and exhausts through the vent in upper left corner. May want to check to see if there is good air flow from exhaust vent when unit is burning. Should be very hot be careful.
The tube that is 3/4 inch shaped like "J" going from gas valve to the 2 inch tube in water heater is the important one.

I had checked both of these before, ran my snake through the big one figuring to find a wasp nest but never did. Just now in the rain I took the 3/4" burner tube off and did find a small moth in the corner where I could not see if before till I blew through it..Cleaned it and adjusted the air.. all set. thanks a lot guys..
Now I have a nice blue cone where as before I had a lazy orange flame and went all the way from the nozzle through the exhaust, what a difference.

--------------

Sorry for the mix-up.
Naturally the exhaust is on the roof.
The flames will back up because there's an obstruction in the exhaust which in this case is the flue that goes up to the roof. At that point there's a cap to prevent water etc... from entering.

Make sure you have a clear path for the exhaust fumes to go. Then adjust the flame on the burner and you should be all set.

Happy trails,
