The time to fix them is when they are new and the plastic is still "fresh". A 1 1/2" stainless washer will distribute the load from the screw, and help prevent cracking. You can buy a lot of washers for $92!!

I'm going to repair mine this weekend....covers are made out of abs plastic.
I went to Lowes (only place I could find it) an bought some glue and a couple
abs plastic pipes. Drilled holes in the flat plastic and will glue to the underside of the cover.....will let you know how well it went.

I fed one to an 18 wheeler who was behind me. Got to looking at the second one and it was cracked too. These were also Dometic. And yes, about the price Kenneth reports.

Inspection of the second one showed that the plastic had become very weak and crumbly - - I don't think the condition of the plastic (on mine snyhow) warranted the effort for repair - - so bought two new ones.

Neither the old ones nor the new ones had any fiberglass in them. No reinforcement or anything. My opinion is they are pretty crummy material, and considerably overpriced.

The reason for spelling is so that all of the words don't look the same.

Luckily both of mine cracked while under the old three year warranty that Newmar had on the '02's. They replaced both of them at no cost, since I had them factory painted to match the full body paint when we ordered the rig they also repainted the new ones. Can't beat that! So far the replacments are about three years ols and show no signs of cracking.

I just replaced my two Duo Therm A/C shrouds as the front one developed a crack. While removing I noticed the entire shroud was brittle from age and sun as compared to how flexible the new ones were. I got the original Dometic Duo Therm replacement shrouds from Camping World for $75 each. I thought it was worth it...

Lost one several months back, didn't even know it till someone at the rally pointed it out. DuoTherm Penguin by the way. Got a replacement and when putting it on looked at the rear cover. Right front screw hole had crack running upward. Did the SuperGlue thing 1st then used some of that putty stuff you knead the 2colors together and when it gets hard it's hard. Worked it into the crack and redrilled the hole. Also got a 3/4" X1/8" aluminum strap and bent it around the front of the cover, drilled holes to match the screw holes. Also drilled holes in the sides of the covers, used sheet metal screws with washers. Might lose another tomorrow but it's sure stronger than it was.

How about painting the covers to protect them from the sun
