When you hook up to the water it does not go straight to the sink it actually fills the tank so when you get ready to leave you need to empty the drinking water tank otherwise you will be hauling 40 gallons or so of water with you and with the price of gas no one wants to do it. You can empty that tank by unhooking the hose to the tank and run your sinks or flush your toliet (if you don't have enough liquid in that tank yet) until it shows empty. My fresh water tank is bigger than my grey and my black so you might have to be at the dump station a little extra if you don't have enough room in your grey and black water tanks to hold the extra fresh water you are dumping. And those of you who have been doing this a while don't laugh we don't know any better if someone doesn't tell us. Tank knowledge doesn't fall from the sky you know.
Mine does not fill the fresh water tank when hooked to the city water. It goes straight to the sinks, shower and toilet. I don't think you will need to emtpy your fresh tank if you are connecting to city water.

You will probably need a sewer donut. You can get them at Wal Mart pretty cheap.

one other thing
many full hook up sites will have asst. things to elevate your hose-alot of the time the sewer hook up is not flush with the ground. if you have any short(8"-12" or so) pieces of wood or a few brick-whatever-to elivate your hose. just about anything will do and you'll be amazed the uses you find for these things(level/steady picnic tables for example)
i keep an asst. of 1/4, 1/2 and 1 x 6 inch boards and use em for all sorts of things
personally i use one of these and a roll of duct tape always comes in handy.
if this doesn't work(has worked everywhere for me so far) i'm sure the CG will have something that would

Everyone's trailer is different the manufacturer of my trailer has it filling the fresh water tank first and does not go directly to the faucet check with your dealer to see what your's does. I found out the hard way after hauling my trailer half way across country with it feeling like a brick on the back of my car I then figured out the fresh water tank is full. Again gentlemen, people aren't born with this knowledge it is something learned either with experiance or with the help of others.

If it interests you, most full hook-up sites also have cable TV available. You might want to take a 10' to 20' jumper cable to go from the cable output, usually located at the power supply at the camp site, to the cable input on your camper. I forgot this on my maiden voyage, but luckily the camp ground store had these on hand.

Thank you for all the good advice, I will check our owners manual and see if it tells me anything on whether the water connection fills my tank or not, they did not mention that on our walkthrough at the dealership. And no, this knowledge certainly does not fall from the sky and I don't want a repeat of "RV"! We are smarter than that though
We camp mostly at state parks and at least around here none of them have stores. We bought a new heavy duty hose today ay Wally World that came with the elbow and assorted other connector things. The hose with our camper was cheap plastic. I think we'll be ok now, especially since I realize now (duh!) that you don't leave the valve open all the time. I did not think that through before I asked I have heard stories about the mountain of death, and do NOT want to deal with that!!
I hope you guys don't think I am an idiot for asking dumb questions, but it's better to ask a dumb question than to wing it and have something bad happen. After we actually get out there and camp everything will be clearer
Unfortunatly our SPs don't have cable TV, but luckily our camper has a really nice TV antenna on top so that will help.
Thanks again!

There are no dumb questions on the part of newbies! There's a ton of stuff and many details to learn about RVs and RVing, and the only way to learn is to ask - and to make mistakes!
Check your PMs too; I sent you one.

Some campers use the same inlet to fill the fresh water tank or for city water hook up. If that's the case, there is a valve that allows you to switch to one or the other. Most campers have a city water connection and a separate fill hose with a cap on it for the FW tank. This is far more common. You need a bayonet connector on your sewer hose to hook to the camper outlet and an L fitting to go into the sewer opening. You can get a threaded fitting that connects to the L with about three different steps or sizes to fit different sewer openings or, you can get a rubber doughnut that fits into the sewer opening and fills the space between the sewer pipe and the L on the end of your hose. Either of these will keep the hose in the sewer when you open a valve. Some campgrounds require an airtight fitting on your sewer hook up. Either of these take care of that. When you are ready to dump, with both valves closed, open the black water valve. I wouldn't worry about it being 3/4 full. The water in the tank from a normal weekend of camping should be enough to wash it out. After the black tank empties, close that valve and open the grey tank valve. As the grey tank empties it will rinse out the hose. When the grey tanks is empty, close the valve. You can elevate the hose while it is connected. I just disconnect the end on the camper first and raise it up so it drains before I pull the end out of the sewer. I recommend a pair of rubber gloves or a box of disposable latex gloves as you will be handling some messy equipment. Some people recommend a spray bottle of bleach to further clean up. I keep a dispenser of baby wipes in the storage compartment where the fittings are kept. When you are all done, don't forget to put the cap back on the pipe. A clear elbow with a male fitting on one end and female fitting on the other is handy to hook between the fitting on your trailer and the hose. It allows you to see when the tanks are done draining. Any RV supply place should have all these items. Good luck and have fun!

I have never seen this with any of my campers, when you hook up city water you get water right out of the faucets immediately. I have never had it fill my tank that way
