If aging was a problem I guess I better stay home.
I made numbers of trips in our big water well drilling rig and it seemed like we always timed it to be between 3 and 6 pm. Now that we live in Canada and make trips to Chehalis to see our kids it still seems like we always drive through around that 3 - 5 pm time frame. I guess having a little patience helps with the whole situation.

I'd choose I-5 instead of I-405. 405 has more and longer bottlenecks as a usual thing.

I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

As others have noted, try to get through the Seattle area by 2pm, and the advice on staying in the left lane after Spokane Street and then using the express lanes is excellent (they open for northbound traffic about noon). Just came through a couple days ago and the newly completed section of I-5 just south of Everett was a joy. Enjoy your trip, fuel up in OR before entering WA and then in the Burlington WA areas.

Good luck. Traveled through Seattle last September and I could have walked fastster. Never did see what the hold up was. Just stay aware of the short lane turners and enjoy the views.

I used to drive through Seattle all the time at about 2pm and never had a problem. That was 30 yrs ago!

grampachet: I spent about 3 yrs in Langley, yeh, 30yrs ago. Was a great little town. I understand that it has really grown. Went to college out at Trinity.

Pick a different day and get a different traffic problem. Things could change but generally I go north up I-5. I do turn to KOMO news on AM 1000 which gives traffic reports every ten mintues on the fours(14,1:14,1:24, etc) If I-5 is a problem, then you could go up 405.

One hint - start listening well south of Tacoma. If I-5 is a problem, hop off just south of Tacoma onto Highway 512, follow down to Puyallup and catch 167 northbound which will intersect with 405. 405 northbound then intersects back with I-5 just about at Everett. This route can also have bad days so KOMO is your best best for realtime traffic updates.

Either way, enjoy the views and relax. Do try and get through Seattle 10AM-2PM if at all possible. Each half hour later can mean a MUCH longer commute............Happy, low traffic travels!!
