We tow with a 1999 Ford F250 SD V10 6.8L, 3.73 rear diff. DH had a Magnaflow Blackcat exhaust installed and a K&N air filter system. Also replaced the transmission fluid with synthetic put a transgo kit in and this was after conferring with our local Ford mechanic. Towing the Komfort which is about 11k loaded, we average 9 - 10mpg highway at 55 - 60mph.

I had a 03 F250 V10 w/430 and was extremly happy with it. I got 13 mpg towing in the mountains with a 8500lb Laredo 5th. I just took delivery of my new F350 V10 w/430 rearend 1 week ago and am averaging 8mpg in the city (28 litres per 100km)but keep in mind it is new and not broke in yet. Mine is the Lariat dually with nav and the whole nine yards. I am so pleased with how quite it is towing and not towing. Very nice ride considering the heavy duty springs. I think you will love your new truck and how it performs under towing conditions. Congrats and good luck.

I think the 4:30 gear ratio will make the difference in towing heavy..

Just returned from a 5000 mile trip. In avery comfortable '06 F250, SC,4x4,4:10gears, Oh yes with the V-10, Auto trans. Towing a 27' Terry Dakota. I believe about a combined weight close to 13500#. Went to Ore., Calif., Az.,Nev., Set the cruise control at 58-62 mph. depending on conditions and got from 7.3 to 10.5 mpg. Over all got 9.1.mpg Had all the power that was needed , could have driven at 75mph like some of the nuts out there , but it would not been near as much fun.

Must be some sort of Canadian math. I never got double digit mpg figures towing in the mountains with either of my V10 trucks. Maybe down hill with the engine off....
