Hi all, I'm new to all this and learning as we go - so forgive this basic question. We have purchased a 1994 34' Four Winds Int. Dutchman on a P30 chassis.

When I connected the a hose to the threaded connector the fresh water tank started filling to about 1/3 capacity then stopped filling. We have full pressure at all fulcets and W/C with or without the pump and the tank can be filled using the other fresh water fill tube.

Is this normal? Or should the tank have filled any?

Secondly the valve on the outside corner that seems to be the tank drain only provides a very slow drip. After filling the tank four days ago it is still draining - about 1/2 empty at this point. Normal?

Lastly, does anyone know where I might get a copy of the coach manual? I was given manuals for the individual components (A/C, generator, etc) but not for the coach itself.

Thanks for any help,
Larry

My fifth wheel has a separate filler for the onboard tank and cannot be filled with the screw on hose connector. The reason the valve is not dripping I suspect is that the tank is empty. Can you hear the water running after you turn the hose on?

As far as a manual, my unit came with a variety of manuals for the components. Best bet would be to contact the manufacturer for the manual.

Enjoy!

Thanks cheddarhead, The supply water just ran for a couple minutes then stopped, with 1/3 full.

I can see the current tank level at 1/2 full and the drain valve is a roatery type mounted outside so it is visble too. A very so drip. I did try opening a the sinks and shower valves but it did not change any.

Thanks,
Larry

I don't have a motorhome, but I think most don't have two connections the way trailers do. I think there is a valve you have to flip if you want to run on city water or fill the tank. I am sure some MH owners will reply soon.

Usually when you hook up a hose to the "City" water connection, that supplies all your fresh water plumbing, and if you also wanted to fill the fresh water tank, you would turn a valve on that should be in the same compartment. Did you see such a valve? Should be marked "Tank Fill". You say you also have another seperate "Gravity" fill for the tank. In this case you might not have a "Fill Valve" connected to the "City" water line. If that is the case there should be a "Check Valve" in the line right near the "Outlet" of the tank that opens to allow water to flow to the water pump inlet, but then closes when you hook up a hose to the "City" water connection so the water does not flow back into the tank. I would susspect that this valve was stuck open for a while and let the water flow back into the tank until, you said the 1/3 capacity was reached, and then the "Check Valve" happened to close at that point prohibiting any more water to enter the tank. As for your "Tank Drain" I would suggest that there is an obstruction in the valve. Try opening and closing the valve several times to see if it unclogs. Or if the valve is a standard faucet valve, the rubber seat in the valve itself could be stuck to it's seat, even though you can Open the valve handle, thus only allowing a small drip. Overhaul or replace the valve or at least open it up to find the problem.
One other thing, when you hook u the hose to the "City" connection, you do not have to use the water pump also.

There are two separate locations to fill or run water while hooked up. For full hookup, its the threaded connection. For tank fill up, non threaded and it is usually on the opposite (street side) of the coach.
The drain should actually empty out faster. Try removing the valve and checking it.

For the manual, try calling the manufacturer, also check their website.

wait a minute, if the fresh water tank started filling up to 1/3, it had to be hooked up to the right place and valves turned right? is the tank vent plugged?

I had a Dutchman -- same exact problem. Very slooow fill and never get to top and very slooooooow draining of fresh water tank.

Turns out that as you fill the tank you need a vent to let air escape. My vent was plugged. Took a compressed air hose with a rubber tip thingy on a blower device and blew into the tank. Took several times and then the obstruction was apparently cleared -- probably blew into the tank.

Tank draining was really slow. Took off valve under the trailer and let it drain. Had to use a piece of wire and constantly keeping fishing out stuff in the hose. Took about three fills before water started to come out with some degree or regularity.

After all that, fill add come bleach and drive around a while. Drain 'er out and yo should be OK.

Thanks for the help! I did find the check valve after looking for it, that could have been the issue since I have found a few other things that were "stuck".

I'll check the drain hose and valve today. The valve rotates OK but I could be pluged. Seemed strange it was on the outside corner, exposed to road dirt, grime and everthing else.

This is a great group - thank you all,
Larry
