Around here, driving 55 will get you run over. The posted speed limit is the "lower limit".

Oregon does not have a "Min" speed limit! Only place I've seen that so far is Utah!

I think the current speed limits would be fine if they were enforced so that people would actually obey the speed limit. Right now a lot of people seem to drive 75-80 in the 65 mph zone on the expressway I usually use.

Unfortunately this isn't 1979 and the US is not the only major consumer of oil in the world. Reducing the US consumption will not do much for world wide oil pricing. In a few years China will require more oil then the USA. China needs oil and they have the US dollars to buy it. And India is importing huge amounts of oil and have started to manufacturer their own quality vehicles. An Indian car company recently bought Jaguar.

A national 55 mph speed limit would help if the USA was having an oil shortage, as we had twice in the 70's, but there is no oil shortage now.

Driving 55 mph rather than 60 will certainly reduce your fuel costs.

As Bob Dylan's old song goes, "The Times They Are A-Changin'".

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Bob Dylan 1964

It should not be legislated. Any who want to drive slow are free to do so. Those who want to get where they are going and are willing to pay more should be free to do so. Speed limits should be based on safety not economy.

I will drive slower to keep my fuel costs down.

I will also feel good about contributing in an infinitesimally small way to lessening our dependence on foreign oil. I would like the limit at 55, but it's so unpopular it won't happen, even if it makes WAY more sense than this silly idea of repealing the Federal gas tax for the summer.

I would like to see the minimum speed limit left at 45 MPH on the interstate system.

If they leave the maximum speed at 75, anyone who wants to can still drive 45, 55 or whatever they can afford to drive (up to 75).

If you want to drive 55, go ahead. Just be considerate in passing others, you might need to speed up so that you are not sitting in the left lane for an extended time. Also if you are on a 2 lane highway, and have more than 5 vehicles behind you, then using a turn-out is required by law in most states.

Just because you want to drive 55 does not mean that everyone wants to drive 55!

I am saying that you are allowed to drive 55 and you should not require others to drive 55 just because your feeling it is a good idea. Allow the rest of us to make up our own minds.

Fred.

The 55MPH limit is in the dumpster where it belongs...no reason to drag it back out.

In Illinois the speed limit is 55 for all TV pulling a trailer. This speed limit is for most if not all trucks where the weight is over 4 tons. Even if you are pulling a Pop Up ,this 55 limit applies to you, in most areas.

That is true in California also, regardless of how many RVs you see pulling a tow car going 70 MPH

With my truck and toyhauler, I get bad milage at 55, I'm still in 5th
gear and not in my sweet spot. 65 works well with my set up. Over 70 and my milage drops bad.
