I agree, to much information (rumors) to comprehend. I work for Nissan, on the HD project, and I haven't heard nearly as much information as what's posted here. There are agreements in place and more being negotiated. Stay tuned to Nissan and Chrysler for official news and product releases. Anything else is just fun gossip.

Works great to keep Chrysler plants humming.

VW's new minivan will be based on Chrysler's Town & Country and will be built at a Chrysler plant.

Chrysler needs all the help they can get. Hopefully it all work to keep them afloat. But a merger or buyout appears to be looming...Cerberus had no idea what they were getting in to.

Thats just it. Dodge isn't designing anyting for Nissan. They are supplying Ram drivetrains and underpinnings and Nissan is supplying most of the sheetmetal and interior stuff with a few gee whiz doodads Dodge won't offer and vise versa. Sharing would be a codesign. It is a reskinned Ram per everythig I have seen in print, right down to the Hemi being in it.
This has been done all over the auto industry for years. The Mazda B-truck is for all practical purposes a Ford Ranger, Mazda Navajo = Ford Explorer, years ago, Dodge Ram50 = Mitsubishi MightMax, Chevy Nova (in the 90's) = Toyota Corolla, Chevy Luv = Isuzu pickup, Ford Courier = Mazda pickup, etc.

It's the name of the company that purchased Chrysler from Daimler last year.

The V8, for the same power output
you wont get the same power output in a v8. you can get comparable overall high point numbers, but theyre at much higher RPM which means theyre sucking more fuel and the torgue curve isnt nearly as flat as the predictable, steady inline 6. the 6.7 hits peak torque of 650# at 1500 rpm, and remains very flat all the way to 2800 rpm (losing only about 25# from 1500 to 2800!) after which its time to upshift. if you use a diesel to pull heavy you use what those who pull heavy use. i know of no kenworth/peterbuilt/etc. running a v8 diesel. lay the 6.7 crankshaft beside any of the v8 diesel crankshafts and the differences in the designs speak for themselves.

That is exactly my point. With the exception of the Ranger/B Series how successful have they been?

Not disputing the advantages of an inline configuration but there are still many V8 Detroits and probably a few Cummins on the road in Class 8 trucks.

And as you go bigger than OTR trucks, Vs become more common than inlines.
